Reinstating the Federal Assault Weapons Ban: In 1994 President Clinton and Congress
instated a federal ban on assault weapons, restricting access to highly-lethal, military-style weapons. Unfortunately, when this ten-year ban expired President Bush and the Republican controlled Congress failed to renew the ban.

Brad Wenstrup:
Don't let Congress encroach upon our gun rights
I'm a proud gun owner, and Life Member of the NRA. I'm frustrated that our constitutional right to keep and bear arms continues to be under attack by liberals and anti-gun zealots. Unfortunately, even the recent Supreme
Court decision reaffirming the individual right to keep and bear arms was upheld only by a single vote. That's why we must be vigilant to ensure that Congress and the courts don't encroach upon our gun rights.

- Requiring a background check for every firearm sale; and

Keith Rothfus:
Strong supporter of the Second Amendment
I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. It is clear what our Founding Fathers intended, as evidenced by James Madison, author of the Bill of Rights, in his Federalist
Paper No. 46, "Americans have the right and advantage of being armed--unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms."
Recently, in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), the Supreme Court concluded that the Second Amendment does establish an individual right to keep and bear arms for self-defense.
I will pledge not to abridge that right, and I will do everything within my power to ensure that these rights are not abridged either through legislative or judicial means.

Kevin Cramer:
National right-to-carry reciprocity
The 2nd Amendment to the Constitution sets forth the fundamental right of every citizen to keep and bear arms, regardless of what state the individual resides in, and I have always received A-ratings from the NRA because of my positions.
I also fully support US Senate Bill 2205, which prohibits the US from funding any UN Arms Trade Treaty that restricts our 2nd Amendment rights. Furthermore, I support the national Right-to-Carry reciprocity legislation, which would recognize a person's
right to carry a firearm while traveling throughout the US if a person is licensed to carry a firearm by any state.
Not only does the idea of banning firearms violate basic rights, it contradicts common sense. Increasing government restrictions and
regulations on gun-owners infringes upon innocent citizens' rights to self-protection and constitutes a waste of limited government resources, since criminals obtain firearms without complying with such requirements.

Janice Hahn:
Focus on youth intervention & keeping guns from criminals
As a Councilwoman, Janice Hahn has fought hard to curb gun violence by focusing on youth intervention, as well as efforts to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Following the senseless 2006 killing of 14-year old Cheryl Green in Harbor City,
Janice partnered with Cheryl's mother to open an after-school center for local youth. In the City Council, she authored a resolution prohibiting gun ownership for gang members convicted of any crime, and she has stood up against
NRA efforts to make handguns untraceable.
Once in Congress, Janice will fight tirelessly to put smart limits on ammunition sales, enforce stricter permitting, and draw down the tragic epidemic of gun fatalities in our community.
