State of Minnesota secondary Archives: on Abortion

Heather Johnson: Abortion is social issue, not government issue

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Abortion is a woman's unrestricted right"?

A: Libertarians are split on this issue, but we all agree this is not a government issue, but a social one in which people must help one another directly. Personally, I would encourage women, on my own, to consider adoption, and if after an abortion consider tubal ligation, birth control methods, condoms, and even abstinence. I do not see abortion as a means of birth control as a right. Adults in America currently know quite well, what can happen when they have sex. We learn human development in biology, which does start at conception. The argument of viability only opens the door to marginalizing people with disability, the elderly and small children. As far as cases of saving the life of the mother, rape/incest I support the right to abort.

Jeff Johnson: I believe in the sanctity of human life from conception

I believe that parents know best how to raise their children and that government should not undermine their right to do so.

I am Pro-Life and believe in the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death.

Scott Jensen: Christian faith compels fighting for unborn children

Scott is a doctor who has delivered hundreds of babies, he is a witness to miracles over and over again. He believes in the sanctity of human life, from conception to natural death. While not every child is born into ideal circumstances, every life matters. His Christian faith compels him to fight for the least among us and that starts with unborn children. Extremists who argue for late-term or partial-birth abortion do not represent Minnesota values.
