State of West Virginia Archives: on Immigration

Don Blankenship: Build wall to stop illegals and choose who we want in

This ad is simple. We need to build a wall. But the purpose of the wall is not to stop immigration--it's to stop "illegal immigration." Companies, civic groups, and even social clubs all select whom they want to have as members of their organizations. America should not be any different. This is the basic question that should be paraphrased and asked of all immigrants. "Ask us not what our country can do for you, we are asking you what you can do for our country."

Alex Mooney: Secure the borders first; then reform without amnesty

Our immigration process is broken, and instead of fixing it, Washington is trying to push through amnesty legislation that will only exacerbate our current problems. I oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants.

As the son of Cuban and Irish immigrants, I want America to be a country that welcomes hard-working legal immigrants who want to live the American Dream. But we must make sure that we do it in a manner consistent with our fundamental belief in the rule of law and fairness.

I will support legislation that focuses first on securing our borders and fixing the problems in our immigration system.

John Buckley: Pathway to residency but only after welfare is reformed

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens"?

A: Oppose at present, until we reform the welfare system. In the meantime, I support a pathway to residency, but not citizenship.
