Protect residents with info on where Syrian refugees are

Saying he wants to protect residents of his state, Gov. Terry Branstad acknowledged that governors might not be have the legal authority to prevent the Syrian refugees from relocating to their states because "this is a federal program." Still, the Republican says he wants more information from the federal government about where people are being placed and the vetting process.

Exempt active-duty military from paying state income tax

Gov. Terry E. Branstad today signed the following legislation into law:

House File 652: An act providing an exemption from the computation of the individual state income tax of all pay received for active duty military service and service in Operation New Dawn and including effective date and retroactive applicability provisions.
