Harriet Miers on Tax Reform

Supreme Court Justice (nominated by Pres. George W. Bush 2005; withdrew)

Supported $800M tax increase on Dallas City Council

I made the president's case for Harriet--trailblazer, real-world lawyer, someone who shares the president's philosophy of judicial restraint.

When I began I was still under the illusion that I could get everyone in the room "on message," as I'd done on so many issues over the years. Within 5 seconds of finishing my pitch, however, it was apparent that was not true to be the case this time.

I took question after question. Wall Street Journal editorial writer John Fund asked why Harriet had supported an $800 million tax increase as a member of the Dallas City Council, casting the deciding vote in a 6-5 split. I didn't even know about it.
