More character education and more community service
The General Assembly's recent approval of a landmark education funding plan designed to pump $1.3 billion in new money for public schools over the next five years may have robbed Townsend's education platform of some momentum.
She pledged [in her announcement speech] "we will keep that commitment" and also said she would push for character education and community service to be a more important component of public education.
