Peter Camejo on Jobs

2004 former Reform Party nominee for Vice President; previously Candidate for CA Governor

Dems pass small minimum wage increases to placate people

An example of this process [of Democrats tacitly supporting Republican corporatism] is our minimum-wage laws. Adjusted for inflation, the minimum wage has been gradually declining for years. Every now and then the Democrats pass a small upward adjustment that allows the downward trend to continue, but gives the appearance that they are on the side of the poor.

Supports required overtime pay & getting workers' fair share

Q: Do you support requiring overtime for workers on the job more than eight hours a day?

CAMEJO: In the last ten years, the wealthiest 5% have gained 113% of their income, the average person hardly gained at all, 8%. I'm for any law protecting working people getting their fair share, meaning overtime after eight hours.
