Phil Bryant on Energy & Oil

Support energy development and investment

We should also look to our energy sector for growth and job opportunities. Mississippi is a leader in many energy related policies and industry practices. By supporting energy development and investment, we can bring more jobs to our residents. As chair of the Southern States Energy Board, I will work hard to make sure Mississippi is positioned as a leader in the energy economy.

Supports both conventional and unconventional energy sources

Mississippi is blessed with rich natural resources, including oil, natural gas, and lignite. We can build on the success of expansions at the Chevron Refinery, Denbury Resources' tertiary enhanced oil recovery, KiOR's conversion of agricultural waste into refinable oil and the Kemper County coal gasification plant. With smart, growth-centered policies, we can meet our rapidly growing energy demands from both conventional and unconventional energy sources and simultaneously ensure economic expansion.
