Garret Graves on Gun Control

The right to bear arms is fundamental to citizenship

A SPORTSMAN FOR NEARLY 40 YEARS; A DEFENDER OF THE 2nd AMENDMENT FOR LIFEHaving been blessed to be born and raised in South Louisiana, my appreciation of the sportsman's way of life and our culture runs deep. I spent my childhood outside from morning until night. I grew up hunting and fishing and have put more rounds through a gun than some small armies. It's no exaggeration to say that the Graves family has probably contributed disproportionately to the ammunition shortage in this country.

But, educating my children about gun safety & what it means to have the right to bear arms will ensure that they have respect for it as a weapon, a source of enjoyment, and as an Amendment to the Constitution that must be preserved. I respect our hunting and fishing laws, the important role of conservation, and I believe that the right to bear arms is fundamental to what it means to be a citizen of the United States.
