Daniel Freilich on Energy & Oil

Getting off carbon is red, white, and blue, not just green

Q: What should be done to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels?

A: Our top priority must be to curb global warming because it is an existential, security, economic, and quality of life threat. However, Republicans must be brought on board, being reminded that getting off carbon is red, white, and blue, not just green.

I do not support the compromised American Power Act legislation as it was too incremental (17% CO2 decrease in 10 yrs), expands nuclear power and offshore drilling, and depends o cap-and-trade rather than a transparent carbon tax. I will fight for comprehensive reform, aiming to transform our economy to one based on non-carbon fuel. How?

  1. Establish a legal deadline for oil importation and fossil fuel use.
  2. Cancel oil subsidies.
  3. Incentivize conversion with a fair carbon tax.
  4. Enact strict mandates, subsidies, and tax incentives for efficiency, alternative energy, and smart development.
  5. Mass transit and inter-city rail investment.
