Setti Warren on War & Peace

Employ all assets to combat terrorist activity worldwide

Al-Qaeda is a network--not a hierarchy. So the threat of violent extremism remains real and immediate, and the most serious risk to the security of the United States is still the risk that a terrorist, bent on destruction, obtains access to a nuclear weapon. We must employ all American assets, both military and civilian, to combat terrorist activity wherever it threatens the American people. Al-Qaeda should not be allowed safe haven anywhere in the world to plan and coordinate deadly attacks.

Draw down Afghan troops pending developments on the ground

Killing Osama bin Laden sends a strong message, but his death does not halt Al-Qaeda's extremism or end the insurgency in Afghanistan. We must remain vigilant in our efforts to prevent Afghanistan from once again becoming a safe haven for Al-Qaeda, but that depends on the Afghan government taking responsibility for political progress and ending corruption. As they do, we should draw down our troops as quickly as possible, pending political and security developments on the ground.

Obama is ending the Iraq War; bring our troops home

Concluding the Mission in Iraq: Since coming to office, the President has kept his promise to end the war in Iraq in a responsible way that prioritizes political stability and peace. It is important to bring our troops home from Iraq and allow the Iraqi people to shape their destiny.
