On Technology: Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes

Problem: There is an increasing number of identity theft crimes. The increase in technology and electronic communication has left individuals exposed to the dangers of identity theft and highlighted Florida's need to increase the criminal penalties to protect its residents. In 2005, 9 million US citizens were victims of identity fraud, while fraud costs have risen from $53 billion in 2003 to over $56 billion in 2006
