2000 National Political Awareness Test: on Principles & Values

Harry Browne: Priorities: End income tax, drug war, & commercial meddling

Browne’s priorities if elected would be:
  1. Restore Constitutional limits on government spending so we can free everyone from the Income Tax and replace it with nothing.
  2. Create a Nation of Millionaires by privatizing Social Security
  3. Free America from the nightmare of the insane War on Drugs
  4. Implement a foreign policy of Peace Through Commerce & Constructive Disengagement.

Howard Phillips: Stick to biblical & constitutional standards

Phillips concurs that there has been a decline in moral and ethical standards in America over the last four decades. To address that, he would “terminate all federal subsidies, grants and contracts which undermine biblical morality and transgress constitutional limits.” His priority would be to “strictly adhere to the limitations and obligations imposed on the executive branch by our federal constitution.”

John Hagelin: Decline of moral standards follow from breaking natural law

Hagelin believes there has been a decline in moral and ethical standards in America. He addresses this concern as follows: “The decline of moral, ethical, and behavioral standards in America-the widespread violation of natural laws governing health, behavior, and environment-is exacerbated by historically high levels of societal stress. The Natural Law Party supports programs that bring life into accord with natural law-programs shown to dissolve individual and societal stress, promote moral reasoning, and awaken our citizens’ fully creativity. Behavior in accord with natural law is spontaneously far-sighted, life-nourishing, and comprehensive, thus naturally upholding high moral and ethical values.“

Steve Forbes: ‘New birth of freedom’ applies to all policies

As President, I will tear down the walls of big government and create a ‘new birth of freedom’ for all Americans: Freedom to be born and grow up in personal safety and prosperity. Freedom to choose an honest, simple flat tax. Freedom to choose a new Social Security system of Personal Retirement Accounts. Freedom to choose schools that work and doctors you trust. Freedom from fear of missile attacks and a loss of American security and sovereignty.
