Doug Lamborn in Survey of 2006 House campaign websites

On Education: Daily opportunity to recite the Pledge of Allegiance

Doug was the Senate sponsor of a bill two years ago that gives children the opportunity every school day to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. He has also tried to make sure that our higher education tax dollars aren’t being used to fund liberal extremists like Ward Churchill. In fact, Doug sponsored a resolution that encouraged the C.U. Board of Regents to fire Churchill. Doug will work hard in Congress, to prohibit the ability of teacher’s unions to negotiate contracts in secret.

On Education: Vouchers & charters push public schools to do better

Doug believes there should be a limited role for the federal government in our nation’s public education system. While there are some excellent public schools, Doug feels our public education system has slowly deteriorated because of lack of outside competition. That is why Doug advocates public education alternatives such as school vouchers, charter schools, on-line education, and home schooling. These choices not only provide parents with options, they also push our public schools to do better.

On Gun Control: 2nd Amendment is a vital protection

Lamborn believes that the 2nd Amendment is one of our nation’s most vital protections. Lamborn helped pass Colorado’s concealed carry law and making it as least restrictive as possible. Lamborn believes that the 2nd Amendment is not only for hunters and target shooters - it’s for the right to defend one’s self and one’s family from attack. Lamborn will oppose any attempts to erode our gun rights, including any steps promoting gun owner databases, or restrictions on weapons based on appearance.

On Health Care: Supports Association Health Plans over Hillary-Care

Although the federal government has a role in ensuring the safety of pharmaceuticals, its tax policies have frequently distorted the free market for health care and created shortages and cost increases. Lamborn supports AHP’s (Associated Health Plans) that would allow individuals and small businesses to pool their resources to receive the large discounts that corporations and the government receive. Doug would oppose any socialization of medicine such as “Hillary Care.”

On Immigration: Secure borders first; fence the Mexican border

Doug believes one of the most critical economic and national security issues facing our nation today is the rising influx of illegal immigration. Doug believes we need to first and foremost secure our borders. Lamborn advocates the hiring of more immigration agents, penalizing municipalities who refuse to enforce our immigration laws, the use of proven surveillance equipment such as unmanned drone planes on our borders to the north and south, and building a security fence along the Mexican border
