On Abortion: Women’s right to reproductive freedom is in jeopardy

I worry that a woman’s right to reproductive freedom is in jeopardy in this Nation. And when elected I will be a strong voice for a woman’s right to reproduction freedom. There is no room for the government in decisions between a woman and her doctor.

On Civil Rights: Endorses Domestic Partnerships and full equal GLBT benefits

It is without reservation that I am proud to endorse the Colorado Domestic Partnership Benefits and Responsibilities Act. My friends in the GLBT community deserve the dignity to be able to make their own decisions concerning matters such as hospital visitation, inheritance, health care decisions, and end-of-life decisions.

On Energy & Oil: Our energy policy keeps us addicted to oil regimes

America is funding both sides of the war on terrorism. We are subsidizing Islamic extremists and the countries they inhabit through our debilitating dependence on foreign oil. At the same time we are spending billions to secure our homeland. We have an energy policy that will keep us addicted to oil regimes that are the most unstable in the world. [These] unstable countries are positioned to maintain an economic stranglehold on our country, unless we act now to dramatically change course.

On Health Care: Broken healthcare system needs a major overhaul

My oldest daughter has a chronic illness and I know first-hand the challenges of rising healthcare costs and decreasing coverage. Our healthcare system is broken and is need of a major overhaul. We need a change in leadership to get this done.

On Social Security: No private accounts

We need to provide long-term solvency for Social Security, but I will never advocate privatizing it. Draining funds out of the Social Security Trust Fund in order to pay for so-called “private accounts” as Pres. Bush has called for, will only make the long-term solvency problem worse.

We need to restore a sense of fiscal discipline to the federal government because the huge deficits we are running threaten the Social Security Trust Fund--[we need] pay-as-you-go rules for managing federal spending.

On War & Peace: We rushed into Iraq war

I opposed the decision by George W. Bush to invade Iraq because I felt at the time that the Bush Administration was rushing into a war without proper planning, without necessary international support and without finishing the job against Al Qeada in Afghanistan. I felt so strongly about the failure and blunders of the Bush Administration that I co-chaired the Kerry Campaign Colorado in 2004. If John Kerry were president our policies would be vastly different than they are today.
