Survey of 2006 House campaign websites: on Gun Control

Doug Lamborn: 2nd Amendment is a vital protection

Lamborn believes that the 2nd Amendment is one of our nation’s most vital protections. Lamborn helped pass Colorado’s concealed carry law and making it as least restrictive as possible. Lamborn believes that the 2nd Amendment is not only for hunters and target shooters - it’s for the right to defend one’s self and one’s family from attack. Lamborn will oppose any attempts to erode our gun rights, including any steps promoting gun owner databases, or restrictions on weapons based on appearance.

Jason Altmire: Strong supporter of Second Amendment rights

Jason Altmire is a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights. In Congress, he will defend the rights of Pennsylvania’s sportsmen by opposing any new gun control laws. We must do a better job of enforcing existing gun laws before considering new restrictions or regulations.

Joe Donnelly: Support the Second Amendment

I believe in and support the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, which guarantees us the right to possess guns.

Mary Fallin: Right to bear arms is in Constitution for a good reason

I believe that the basic freedoms assured by our Constitution, including speech, religion, assembly AND the right to keep and bear arms--are there for a good reason, and must be defended against those who would threaten them.

The Second Amendment means exactly what it says, and I will defend the right of every law-abiding citizen to own guns. Responsible gun ownership is a basic right, and I will never vote for legislation that abridges that right.

I am a member in good standing with the NRA.

Michael Arcuri: We need better enforcement, not more gun laws

Mike on Gun Control... “As a district attorney, my office has prosecuted many illegal gun cases, and we know it is not the legally-possessed guns that cause danger to our citizens but the illegally- possessed guns. We don’t need more gun laws; we need better enforcement of existing gun laws and more funding for police to enforce those laws.”

Michele Bachmann: Fight to uphold our 2nd Amendment rights

Growing up in a home that valued hunting and fishing, the 2nd Amendment is of equal importance as the other nine Amendments in our Bill of Rights. Since the age of twelve, when I passed my first gun safety class, I’ve enjoyed the privilege afforded us by the right to bear arms. While serving in the Minnesota State Senate I supported and helped pass the Minnesota Personal Protection Act and legislation to protect local shooting ranges. I will fight to uphold our 2nd Amendment rights.

Peter Welch: 100 percent National Rife Association record

Peter’s record reflects his respect for the outdoor traditions of Vermont. Peter was the lead sponsor of legislation creating Hunter Appreciation Day, the first of its kind in the nation, has a 100 percent National Rife Association (NRA) record and was the Vermont Association of Snowmobile Trails (VAST) legislator of the year. He will take to Washington a strong support for protecting and enhancing public access to our forests, our rivers, and our lakes for generations to enjoy.

Tim Walberg: Second Amendment is a constitutional guarantee

Tim Walberg believes the Second Amendment is a constitutional guarantee, not a personal opinion. He is a resolute supporter of sportsmen, a proud member of the NRA, and possesses a lifetime A+ NRA voting record rating.

Vern Buchanan: Defend the Second Amendment

Defend the Second Amendment: Our district is a likely target for national anti-gun groups, extreme liberals and Hollywood types that would take away our Second Amendment rights. I am a strong defender of the Second Amendment, a Life Member of the NRA, and a gun owner and hunter. I support tougher laws against criminals - not against gun owners or firearms manufacturers. I will be a strong voice and sure vote in the battle to defend our Second Amendment rights.

Zack Space: Second Amendment is a cornerstone of the Bill of Rights

As a gun owner and a member of the NRA, I believe the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms is a cornerstone of the Bill of Rights. In addition to personal defense, it allows for individuals to be a part of a citizen militia, acting as a check and balance against a tyrannical government.

Any law that threatens the Second Amendment is a treat to our Constitution and our Democracy. Current gun legislation is stringent enough and I will stand up to politicians who want to create stricter gun laws.
