On Abortion: Safe, legal abortion regardless of income

I believe that health care is a right and should be guaranteed for all Americans. I believe that a woman’s reproductive issues are her own to make. I believe that Congress has a responsibility to provide basic health services for all, regardless of income, without discrimination, including contraception and safe, legal abortion.

On Energy & Oil: Replace oil incentives with forward looking energy policy

One of the most glaring failures of Congress and the Bush administration is in the lack of a coherent, forward looking energy policy. Instead of developing alternatives that put the US in the position of marketing new technologies to the rest of the world, this oil-based cadre of government officials has given tax breaks and incentives to oil, coal and nuclear companies at a time when they are already making record profits.

On Health Care: Ensure that every American has access to the healthcare

The ballooning cost of medical care is not only felt in the pocketbooks of all Americans, but the loss of healthcare for families across our country. We need to protect healthcare programs that are vital to the wellbeing of children, seniors, and all Americans, and to overhaul the Bush/Kelly programs that cater to their friends in business more than to the people who elected them. As your congressman, I will work to ensure that every American has access to the healthcare they need.

On Social Security: We must preserve Social Security, not dismantle it

Social Security is the most important safety-net program in the United States today. Its time-tested success at keeping millions of American out of poverty proves that we must preserve Social Security, not dismantle it.

On Tax Reform: No tax breaks to multi-millionaires

John will not give tax breaks to multi-millionaires, while squeezing the middle class. Instead of paying $250 million a day to wage an unending war in Iraq, we should reallocate those funds to pay for real homeland security, healthcare, education and our many other needs.

On War & Peace: Extricate from Iraq by transferring to multinational force

I believe America has, and should always have, a first-rate military. I did not support the invasion of Iraq. I believe in following the Constitution by letting Congress decide when to declare war, but in this instance Congress and the American people were deceived. Now that we’re in this mess, we should extricate our troops as quickly as possible by transferring control to a true multinational force.
