On Abortion: Roe vs. Wade has been settled law for 30 years

Patrick is Pro-Choice. As a former professor of Constitutional Law, he understands that the right to privacy is guaranteed by the United States Constitution, and that Roe vs. Wade has been settled law for 30 years. He believes we should also work to make abortion safe, legal and rare by promoting comprehensive sex education and encouraging alternatives such as adoption.

On Abortion: Full federal funding of Embryonic Stem Cell Research

Patrick supports full federal funding of Embryonic Stem Cell Research. It was American ingenuity that cured polio, and we have long produced the world’s most advanced medical research. By failing to fully fund further research of this scientific breakthrough, we run the risk of falling behind other nations in the race to cure life threatening illnesses.

On Energy & Oil: Harness renewable energy and make American industry greener

We send $25 billion every year to the Middle East just to cover our addiction to foreign oil. We need to use American ingenuity to develop alternative fuel sources, harness renewable energy, and make American industry greener. In order to spur innovation, we should offer incentives to industries that invest in alternative energy so that products like hybrid vehicles are more readily available to American consumers.

On Health Care: Access to quality health care is a basic human right

Patrick believes that access to quality health care is a basic human right, and that it’s long past time that the US joined every other industrialized nation in ensuring health care security for all Americans. Access to health care is both a cost issue and a coverage issue. The costs of health insurance have continued to skyrocket, leaving employers who want to do the right thing few options other than limiting coverage. For the unemployed, the young and seniors, the costs can be even more prohibitive.

On Immigration: No amnesty; no benefits for illegal immigrants

Patrick Murphy does not believe in amnesty. He does not believe that illegal immigrants should be offered benefits that are awarded to hardworking American citizens such as health insurance or Social Security. Patrick Murphy believes that we should be cracking down on employers who have been flaunting the law to make a quick buck. We need to build a fence to monitor who is coming into and leaving our country.

On War & Peace: Responsible exit strategy, with benchmarks and a timeline

Our troops toppled the Saddam Regime and made sure that there were no WMDs. It is time to change the direction in Iraq, and we need to start bringing our men and women home now. Patrick believes in a responsible exit strategy, with benchmarks and a timeline, which encourages the Iraqis to stand up on their own, brings our men and women home, and most importantly, closes this chapter of our history and refocuses our efforts to win the War on Terror.
