On Free Trade: Race to the bottom must be stopped

The country has lost too many jobs over the past 4 years due to unfair trade practices. Thousands of manufacturing jobs have been lost to places such as Mexico & China [which] allow companies to employ children, prevent workers the right to organize and deny health and wage protections. It is a race to the bottom and it must be stopped. If we work to increase labor standards and the standard of living in developing nations it will help to end the practice of labor exploitation.

On Health Care: Health Care should be a right and not a privilege

Prescription drugs costs continue to soar at a rate higher than general inflation. I would like to scrap the current prescription bill and re-write it in plain language that the average American can understand. I would also like to see Medicare utilize its bargaining power to negotiate lower prescription drug prices. Health Care should be a right and not a privilege.

On Jobs: Farm Bill helps farmers AND weans us off Mideast oil

I will fight hard for the farmers throughout Western and Central Illinois by supporting legislation such as the Farm Bill which increases the amount of supplemental aid available to farmers and increases conservation spending by 75%. The Farm Bill also promotes renewable fuels. I support the use of Biofuels and the expansion of ethanol use. I will advocate for the usefulness of ethanol and its benefits, not only to the environment, but also to weaning ourselves off of Middle East oil.

On Social Security: Total opposition to any type of privatizing

America’s Families have benefited from Social Security for over 70 years. I support a balanced Social Security plan for guaranteed benefits so that we can continue providing for the people who rely on it today and for future generations who will need it. I am also in total opposition to any type of privatizing of Social Security. Private accounts would make building the Social Security system even harder. I believe it is far too risky and could destroy the system all together.
