On Drugs: Cannot just throw people in jail for drugs; more treatment

We are doing a poor job at rehabilitation, especially in regards to drug treatment. Jerry Brady is an advocate of treatment centers in prisons. We can’t simply throw more and more people into jail, where they are exposed to even more drugs. We need drug treatment centers in our prisons now. Jerry believes that by strengthening our education system, from early childhood straight through college, we will cut down on crime and prison populations.

On Education: Support sustainable funding for public schools

In order to prepare our children and to strengthen our state and our nation, we advance the following seven principles and support them with effective solutions:
  1. Every child deserves to learn and grow in an environment that provides safety and emotional support.
  2. Parents are their children’s best advocates and, as such, must be full partners in their educational decisions.
  3. Children learn best when their school environment is supportive of each child’s learning. The tools necessary for learning--whether labs, technology, or textbooks--must be available and up to date.
  4. Every child deserves a highly skilled and caring teacher.
  5. Return control to parents, [via] three regional parental advisory boards elected by local PTA and PTO members.
  6. Promotion of character development.
  7. Support sustainable funding for public schools.

On Education: Parents in concert with schools develop kids’ moral compass

Parents, working in concert with their locally elected trustees, must be empowered to shape the schools their children attend. Compassionate parenting is needed for our children to develop the strength of character and moral compass they need to thrive & prosper in a world that has turned from personal responsibility and respect for others to one where greed & violence often predominate. [I support] promotion of character development. We want our children to not only be smart, but good citizens as well.

On Energy & Oil: Harness wind, geothermal and bio-waste

Jerry believes Idaho can lead the nation in energy independence. By conserving energy and by harnessing plentiful renewable sources right here in Idaho--like wind, geothermal and bio-waste--we can drive down the price of energy and lessen our dependence on foreign oil. Instead of building mercury emitting coal plants, Jerry will save us money by investing in energy efficient technology for our homes, farms and buildings.

On Health Care: Health care is national problem & needs national solution

In visiting countless health care providers around Idaho during my campaign, I have been constantly learning how our state can foster a better healthcare system. There are five principles that form the core of my approach to our healthcare system:
  1. Adults need access to a primary care provider. If they have one, visits to emergency rooms and expensive operations later will decrease, along with state costs.
  2. The state needs to protect the viability of its hospitals. Non-profit and rural hospitals in particular constitute one of the cores of rural economic development.
  3. The state has an interest in insuring not only an adequately supply of doctors but also of nurses, paramedics and other health professionals.
  4. Health care is a national problem and needs a national solution.
