On Abortion: Protect life, both born and unborn

I firmly believe in and will continue to work to protect the sanctity of all human life in Kansas, both born and unborn. Therefore, as we seek protection in our constitution and from our Creator, let us protect life, not just convenient planned life, not just healthy life, not just life during the third trimester, but all life.

On Education: Merit pay for teachers based on teacher testing

Teacher pay must be linked to performance, not solely to seniority. Many will argue that performance criteria are bound to be subjective, narrow and unfair. This is why teachers, themselves, should help design an equitable system. Standardized test scores should be but one of several considerations. Discipline, portfolio work and a host of other factors should be considered.

On Education: Increase classroom funding by increasing efficiency

I believe that classroom education funding should increase in Kansas. Our classroom teachers rank 40th in pay among the states, yet in our region, our citizens pay more in taxes for education than most. We must work diligently to increase classroom funding by more efficiently spending existing education dollars.

On Tax Reform: Lower corporate tax to be more business-friendly

Shallenburger believes a low, competitive, consistent and fair tax structure is a vital component in our economic development policy. “Corporate income taxes in Kansas are too high,” says Shallenburger. He supports lowering state corporate income tax rates. “We need to be business friendly in Kansas,” Shallenburger said.
