During the debate, Congressman Capuano questioned Attorney General Martha Coakley's view on the Patriot Act. Coakley says she would vote against it as it is currently formulated. Khazei and Pagliuca also would vote against it.

On Corporations: Not right to pay bankers bonuses with 320,000 unemployed

Across the country, nearly 5.5 million people have lost their jobs. In Massachusetts alone, there are nearly 320,000 people currently unemployed, with nearly 100,000 people losing their job since last August. Against this backdrop, many big banks on Wall Street that were aided by the US Government and the taxpayers, stand ready to pay out huge bonuses. This is not right.

The clearest way out of our current troubles is growth--growth in jobs, growth in income, growth in the economy.

On Tax Reform: Job Focused Tax Reform: incentives, training, & funding

Steve's latest plan on Job Focused Tax Reform complements his previous plans on a Blueprint for Job Creation to put people back to work in the state's most innovative sector and a Financial Regulatory Reform plan that will secure our markets and strengthen the regulations that govern Wall Street.

On Budget & Economy: Managing director at Bain Capital; trained as accountant

Pagliuca, the managing director at Bain Capital, told his personal story as the grandson of an Italian immigrant who urged him to get an education and succeed. He said his grandfather had wanted him to be an accountant because they were the only people with good jobs during the Depression. Now that the United States is in the worst economy since those times, he said he would fight in Washington to make sure today's children would have the same opportunities that he did.

On Jobs: 10% unemployment is totally unacceptable

Pagliuca said he would fight in Washington to make sure today's children would have the same opportunities that he did. He said it is "totally unacceptable" that unemployment is nearing 10 percent. "I'm really a product of a system that I don't know if our children will have," he said, clutching a manila folder under one arm. "I will work like a dog in Washington to bring back those jobs to the country and the state."
