Survey of 2010 Gubernatorial campaign websites: on Government Reform

Henry McMaster: Served on state Commission on Ethics Reform

2012: Appointed to the South Carolina Commission on Ethics Reform: Led the Commission on Ethics Reform, a bipartisan group, to develop ways to strengthen our states outdated, and often ineffective, ethics laws. With Henry's leadership they drafted what is considered the blue print for a more ethical government, a government that works for the people. We are now closer than ever to enacting real ethics standards for our state's public officials which promotes honesty & accountability.

Andrew Cuomo: Tough new ethics standards & expand disclosure requirements

We must restore honor & integrity to government, with tough new ethics standards, expanded disclosure requirements, independent investigators to root out & punish corruption, & an overhaul of campaign finance laws. We must remove legislative redistrictin from partisan elected politicians & place it in the hands of an independent commission that works only for the people. And we must hold a constitutional convention--A People's Convention--to rewrite the Constitution and make these changes immediately.

Jerry Brown: Forced legislators to comply with campaign disclosure laws

As Attorney General, Brown forced legislators to comply with campaign disclosure laws and exposed President Nixon's use of falsely notarized documents to improperly earn a large tax deduction. Before Watergate, Brown authored the Political Reform Act of 1974, which was overwhelmingly adopted by the voters of California. This law established some of the nation's toughest regulations governing campaign disclosure and lobbyist activities.

John Kasich: Skinny-down bureaucracy & kick out special interests

Make Government More Efficient And Effective--Skinny-down state bureaucracy to ensure taxpayers are getting their money's worth, and reform state government into a 21st century partner with Ohio's job creators--not one that punishes business with outdated or unnecessary regulation;

End The Influence Of Special Interests--Build common-sense solutions to our problems and kick out those who, for too long, have kept us from fixing all that is wrong in our state

Nikki Haley: Strongly in favor of term limits at all levels of government

Term Limits: I am strongly in favor of term limits at all levels of government. I have introduced legislation to place limits on legislators: 8 years in the House of Representatives or the Senate, no more than 12 years total.

Sam Brownback: Terminate failed programs like we close unneeded army bases

Sam is pushing for meaningful tax reform and an optional flat tax, a BRAC-like commission to review and terminate failed or completed federal programs, and to build market and consumer based solutions to health care reform. He is a founding member of the Senate Fiscal Watch Team and strongly supports a balanced budget and reform of the earmark and appropriations process.

Brian Sandoval: Strongly uphold values of the Constitution & 10th amendment

I have a profound respect for the United States Constitution and believe it should be strictly interpreted. The Tenth Amendment, which is the foundation for the expression of state's rights, is extremely important in the face of continued federal intrusion upon state's rights. As Governor, I will aggressively protect Nevada's state's rights under the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Dan Malloy: Bring federal money back to Connecticut programs

We cannot truly fix our system of taxation without spending more wisely. Governor Rell is leaving federal tax-dollars on the table. Connecticut taxpayers pay more the federal government on a per capita basis than 47 other states. For every dollar Connecticut taxpayers send to Washington, only 69 cents is returned--much less than Massachusetts ($0.82), Rhode Island ($1.00) or Vermont ($1.08).10 We need to a better job of bringing some of that money back home.

Tom Foley: Reduce the cost and size of state government

We need a new direction and new leadership that will deliver the opportunities and promising future our citizens want and deserve. We need change that will get Hartford working for us again. We need a plan that will keep businesses and young people from leaving our great state.

I have a plan that will get Connecticut headed back in the right direction. It is a plan that will restore a promising future by focusing on the four things that Connecticut families tell me they care about most and want to see changed. They are:

  1. Bringing Back Jobs and the Economy
  2. Reducing the Cost and Size of State Government
  3. Reducing the Tax Burden on Connecticut Working Families
  4. Changing the Way Business is Done in Hartford

Jill Stein: Re-establish Clean Elections Law: end "pay-to-play"

The power of big money in politics is stealing our democracy. Politicians are so busy "dialing for dollars" that they don't have time to listen to the voices of the people that elected them. They enter office with favors to repay to their big donors.

The people of Massachusetts deserve a clean money campaign system that allows candidates to run for office without selling out to big money interests. Candidates who refuse to take tainted money should be able to compete on a level playing field.

The voters called for fundamental changes when they voted for the Clean Elections Law over ten years ago. Unfortunately, incumbent legislators who were profiting from the existing fundraising machinery repealed this reform on an unrecorded voice vote, opening the way to ten years of continued corruption and scandal. One of my top priorities will be to reestablish a clean money law that gives a fair break to candidates of integrity who refuse to participate in "pay-to-play" fundraising practices.
