Survey of 2010 Gubernatorial campaign websites: on Gun Control
Henry McMaster:
Government continues to intrude on gun owners' rights
For decades, Henry has worked with the NRA to protect our 2nd Amendment rights. But government at every level continues to intrude on gun owners' rights. Henry has passionately defended our 2nd amendment rights in state & federal courts across America.
Henry was instrumental in clearing the way for concealed weapons reciprocity with other states. When local government officials have attempted to encroach gun owners constitutional rights, the attorney general took action to protect gun owners' rights.

Andrew Cuomo:
Enact commonsense laws lie microstamping of guns
We must keep our communities safe. Gun violence remains one our most serious problems. We must enact commonsense gun safety laws, such as requiring the microstamping of guns. Microstamping--a pro-law enforcement, low cost method of expanding the ability
of police to identify guns used in illegal activities--would require all new semiautomatic handguns to be equipped with microscopic identifying markings, which are transferred to each cartridge case when the firearm is fired.

Dennis Daugaard:
Second Amendment is clear: individual right to bear arms
I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. I believe the Second Amendment is clear that every law-abiding citizen has an individual right to keep and bear arms.As a state senator, I consistently voted to protect the right to bear arms, and
I proud to have received an "A+" rating from the NRA for my support of gun rights.
As a hunter, I understand that this cherished right is an important part of our state's culture. As governor, I will continue to support the Second Amendment.

Matt Mead:
Sunset the assault weapons ban, including my AR15
I will oppose federal efforts to infringe upon our Second Amendment rights. My collection of guns includes AR 15 models, .50 caliber, .22s, and many others. I do not want you or me to lose our right to own and use these guns. Therefore,
I support the sunset of the assault weapons ban and reciprocity with other states for Wyoming's concealed carry laws. I will also direct my Attorney General to resist efforts to change new policy which allows guns to be carried in our national parks.

Nikki Haley:
Make concealed weapons permits easier
Few things are as clearly defined as the right of individual Americans to own and use firearms. The right to bear arms was deemed so critical by our Founders that they spelled it out in absolute terms, and any governmental action that undermines that
right is in turn undermining the very freedoms that built our great nation. I hold a Concealed Weapons Permit myself, and in this state makes it difficult for CWP holders to rightfully carry--we need to make the rules that govern carrying far more simple

Allen Weh:
Defend our right to bear arms
Throughout my 38 years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps, I proudly defended the freedoms guaranteed to each of us by our founding fathers. As your Governor,
I will continue to defend our rights, including our right to bear arms. I support every American's constitutional right to bear arms and further support the Castle Doctrine, which allows an individual to defend his home with armed force if necessary.

Dan Malloy:
Reduce illegal gun activity by removing illegal guns
Removing Illegal Guns: Too often news reports lead with a story reminding us of threat of gun violence. As I did in Stamford, I will work collaboratively with local leaders and police forces to develop creative solutions for reducing illegal
gun activity and the threat it poses. I will also seek to enhance the state's gun trafficking task force and partner with the federal government to trace guns seized in a crime.

Founding fathers gave us the absolute right to bear arms
The right to bear arms was deemed so critical by our Founders that they spelled it out in absolute terms, and it is my belief that any governmental action that undermines that right is in turn undermining the very freedoms that built our great nation.
I hold a Concealed Weapons Permit myself, and in this state we have issues that make it difficult for CWP holders to carry. As governor, I will continue to fight against any government infringement on the 2nd Amendment.

Gary Herbert:
Support the 2nd Amendment as well as the 10th
The 2nd Amendment guarantees the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. I strongly support that right, not just in word, but in action. During the 2010 legislative session, my support of the 2nd Amendment, as well as the 10th, was put to the test by
Senate Bill 11. This bill protects not only the right to keep and bear arms, but the right of states to regulate commerce within their own borders. Despite pressure from anti-gun groups, I signed the bill.
