On Energy & Oil: Be surer of global warming before we destroy jobs

Global warming is an ongoing topic of debate in the media and academia. I want to be fully informed with accurate information before I accept any proposal that will destroy American jobs or increase the average family's energy bill as many bills pending in Congress will do.

I strongly oppose the "Cap and Trade" bill pending in the U.S. Senate and as Congressman will fight against any such legislation that fails to be financially sound and prudent.

On Health Care: Socialized medicine has failed everywhere it's been tried

My position on Obamacare has been consistent from Day One. I opposed both the House and Senate bills and the reconciliation which was ultimately signed by the President.

Socialized medicine, like any command economy, has failed everywhere it's been tried, and injecting large doses of federal bureaucracy into this system will have the same crippling effect. Our free-market, capitalist system rewards the innovative and the efficient--let it work for healthcare.

On Homeland Security: Keep the Patriot Act in full force

Terrorist attacks must be called what they are--acts of war; to treat them as crimes is a weak and dangerous course of action. Further, we must try those responsible for acts of war by military tribunal, not in a District Court like any common criminal.

We must keep the Patriot Act in full force and give our military, intelligence and law enforcement agencies all the tools they need to thwart enemy attempts against Americans. We need to immediately stop investigating our CIA operatives.

On Immigration: Stopping illegal immigration protects lives & jobs

This nation has had enough of career politicians who want to reward illegal aliens with amnesty and citizenship for breaking our laws. Most countries, including Mexico, our neighbor to the south, have zero tolerance for illegal immigration, and it's time we did the same. As far as I am concerned, stopping illegal immigration is as much about protecting American lives as it is about protecting American jobs and maintaining a stable, healthy economy.

On War & Peace: No unrealistic timelines nor early troop withdrawals

We must recognize the inherent limitations of a country that may not be able to exist within our idea of democracy. This is a multi-faceted challenge, but three key factors come to mind: the lack of infrastructure; the porous border with Pakistan; and the fundamental fact that Afghanistan is a tribal nation. We must remain committed to a clear and decisive mission for our troops. Unrealistic timelines and promises of early troop withdrawals are premature, unrealistic and dangerous to our soldiers.
