On Foreign Policy: International dialogue will lead to a more peaceful world

We live in an increasingly interconnected world and improving global literacy among our citizens contributes significantly to our nation's foreign policy, economic competitiveness and national security. Through international education, the US can establish a foundation for dialogue and partnership with the rest of the world and create the conditions for lasting global peace, security, and well-being; I proclaim November 14-18, 2011, as International Education Week.

On Technology: Building infrastructure is a top priority to create jobs

The N.C. Department of Transportation seeks proposals starting Oct. 3 for private engineering firms to design replacements for 187 bridges. My top priority is growing jobs and investing in infrastructure leads to job growth. Workers are needed to do design work and construction, and these projects improve our ability to move people and goods efficiently, expanding our economy.
