Bill Haslam in 2011 gubernatorial press release

On Corporations: Encourage business with low taxes and austere government

Bill is using his experience to get our state through difficult economic times while keeping taxes low and fostering the business-friendly environment that will be critical to continued job growth. State government must be forced to prioritize. By making tough decisions, managing the state budget conservatively, and guiding our state finances back to a position of strength, Bill is helping our state compete in a global economy and attract the jobs of the future to Tennessee.

On Energy & Oil: Supports alternative fuels to cut dependence on foreign oil

Haslam said after the [Southern Governor's] tour that if Tennessee can make a fuel that isn't subject to the whims of the international oil market, that is clean and domestically available, "that's a huge win for us."

On Health Care: Expand Medicaid to include smoking cessation assistance

Not smoking is one of the best healthy choices Tennesseans can make. I am pleased that smoking cessation assistance will now be more easily accessible to TennCare recipients. This is an important step to encourage Tennesseans to make healthier decisions, especially since TennCare covers nearly a quarter of the state's population. TennCare is the State of Tennessee's Medicaid program that provides health care insurance to approximately 1.2 million Tennesseans.
