Lincoln Chafee: Legalize medical marijuana to relieve pain

Medical organizations throughout the country including the Rhode Island Medical Society and the American Medical Association have come to recognize the potential benefits of marijuana for medical use. Patients, many of whom are in tremendous pain, stand to experience some relief. Governor Gregoire and I are taking this step to urge the Federal Government to consider allowing the safe, reliable, regulated use of marijuana for patients who are suffering.

Rick Snyder: Reduce supply, combating production of meth

There is new legislation stepping up the state's efforts to combat the production of illegal methamphetamine. Current efforts to prevent the sale of these legal medicines to people who use it to manufacture the illegal drug are insufficient.

This will give law enforcement the ability to better detect patterns and block sales to people who buy up large quantities of cold & allergy medicine. We will make our communities safer by preventing access to the ingredients needed to manufacture meth.

Earl Ray Tomblin: Support substance abuse care

Substance abuse is an issue that affects us all. It's a personal issue that hurts our families, it's a civic issue that hurts our communities and it threatens our reputation as hard working West Virginians.

Focusing on this issue from a local level gives any West Virginian who wants to help address this problem an opportunity to do so. We will improve the statewide continuum of care for substance abuse, and coordinate efforts to increase both public & private support of substance abuse initiatives.
