2011 gubernatorial press release: on Government Reform

Jack Markell: Supports government transparency and accountability

Delaware's Freedom of Information Act helps ensure transparency and accountability in government, which is the people's business. It is now easier for citizens to make FOIA requests, executive branch agencies must be more consistent in how they respond to these requests and in many cases, we will substantially reduce the cost of FOIAs. This is an important part of our efforts to make state government more open, efficient and responsive to the needs of Delaware citizens.

Dennis Daugaard: Federal regulatory regime has run amok

At the federal level we have seen a regulatory regime that has run amok. We will not let that happen in South Dakota. I instructed Cabinet members to take a close look at their statutes, rules, and policies. I'm proud that my Cabinet has taken this head-on, and the results of what they have proposed to me is impressive: In total, my Cabinet has identified 386 sections of state code and pages upon pages of regulations, totaling 43,424 words, that can be repealed.

Jay Nixon: Will balance Missouri budget & keep AAA bond rating

"Unlike the folks in Washington, D.C., we balance our budgets here in Missouri each and every year," Gov. Nixon said. "We must protect Missouri's spotless AAA bond rating and keep the state's fiscal house in order. That's why comprehensive tax credit reform is essential."

Scott Walker: Cutting the cost of government enables us to save jobs

The Legislature helped us save 1,500 middle-class jobs by moving forward this week with the budget repair. The state will now be able to realize $30 million in savings to balance the budget and allow 1,500 state employees to keep their jobs. The reforms contained in this legislation, which require modest health care and pension contributions from all public employees, will help put Wisconsin on a path to fiscal sustainability.

Andrew Cuomo: Supports campaign finance reform as fair to all candidates

In order to restore trust and accountability in government, we must reform the ballot box. The State's campaign finance laws fail to prevent the dominance of wealthy contributors and special interests in government. Campaign finance reform must include a system of public funding of elections. The State needs a system of campaign financing to set limits on campaign spending and increase participation by candidates who otherwise would lack the means or connections to raise campaign funds.

Brian Sandoval: Freezing archaic regulations is my number one priority

I've been clear that my number one priority is economic development and freezing archaic and ineffective regulations until the end of this year will help promote business. As I said in my inaugural address today, our generation must commit to bringing Nevada's economy, workforce and schools safely into this new reality in which we find ourselves.
