2011 gubernatorial press release: on Local Issues

Brian Sandoval: Gaming Policy Committee: modernize with Internet poker

Governor Sandoval will convene the Gaming Policy Committee to discuss issues related to technology and the modernization of the gaming industry.

We must preserve Nevada's leadership role in gaming--even in this brave new digital world, if we are entering a new era in gaming history.

Internet poker may be one of a series of modernizing events that may change the direction of gaming, with statewide implications for tax policy, workforce development, and infrastructure on the Las Vegas Strip.

Brian Sandoval: Online poker companies still viable, must keep close watch

Nevada is the regulatory standard-bearer and we must continue to guard against any semblance of wrong-doing in our most important industry. While the allegations made against three companies are of grave concern, I remain committed to the prospect of federal legislation that will provide for Internet gaming in a way that applies the same rigorous standards to online companies that we apply to traditional gaming institutions. I have asked Nevada's gaming regulators to closely monitor the federal case.

Terry Branstad: Saving costs is a priority: rescind RICE rule

Signed Executive Order number 72, rescinding the Iowa "RICE" rule. The RICE rule forced back-up diesel generators to be retrofitted with very expensive new parts, even though the engines are rarely used.

On a 'Rules and Regulations' tour we learned of many regulations burden Iowa business. This administration is serious about removing burdensome regulations. 67 Iowa utilities would have added costs because of this rule, which would likely result in higher prices for the Iowa consumer.
