The Treasurer's office is important--critically important in an economic downturn--and Cary has proven that she takes her responsibilities seriously. She kept the state out of investments tied to the subprime market, rejected proposals to invest
state dollars in risky stock portfolios, and seven months before the banking crisis hit, in a remarkably prescient move, she diversified a 33% chunk of Colorado's investment pool that had been in the hands of one bank.
Under Cary's diligent watch, our state's investments have maintained positive earnings and posted a 3% gain this last fiscal year.
She has protected Colorado's strong credit at a time other states have been downgraded--proof that her sound financial management and careful planning make all the difference.

BEST program: $1B to fix crumbling and dilapidated schools
Cary took the lead in crafting the Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) plan that directs a new stream of funding to repair, renovate and replace crumbling and dilapidated schools across Colorado.
BEST will provide close to $1 billion to K-12 capital construction over the next several years--the largest state investment in school construction in Colorado's history.

Colorado Tax Tracks: see how taxes are spent, online
Cary has followed through on her pledge to make Colorado's financial information the most transparent and accessible it has ever been by putting the state's checkbook, balance sheet and investment portfolio online. Most recently,
Cary launched an online tool that allows each Coloradan to see how their tax dollars support different state programs.The interactive website, called Colorado Tax Tracks, is the first state website of its kind in America.
It gives people detailed information on an individual or family basis about how their state tax dollars are used. Information is broken down so that taxpayers can see what they spend on nearly
one hundred functions of government, from clean drinking water inspections to disease control.
