2010-2020 Mayor's Press Releases: on Families & Children

Bill de Blasio: Signs legislation protecting against sexual harassment

"Society has been stacked in favor of men for far too long, leading many to believe they can harass women without fear of punishment," said Mayor de Blasio. "New York City will not allow that continue. We are taking action to protect workers against sexual harassment and saying loudly & clearly that anyone who harasses a co-worker will face justice." "When women step forward with a grievance, it is the employer's responsibility to listen and take appropriate action," said First Lady Chirlane McCray.

Mike Rawlings: Ban pornography expo from Dallas convention center

The Dallas City Council voted Wednesday afternoon to ban Exxxotica, a pornography expo, from returning to the city-owned downtown convention center. The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) applauds the Dallas City Council, and Mayor Rawlings, for an enlightened decision against a sexually exploitive industry.

The Executive Director of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation said, "Despite threats of lawsuits, Mayor Rawlings and the Dallas City Council recognized that sometimes doing the right thing means having to confront unjust industries. The Exxxotica event would have promoted hard-core pornography and torture sex. This is a case of government officials raising awareness about the harms of pornography."

Founded in 1962, NCOSE is the leading national organization exposing the links between all forms of sexual exploitation such as child sexual abuse, prostitution, sex trafficking and the public health crisis of pornography.
