2010-2020 Mayor's Press Releases: on Immigration

Bill de Blasio: NYC will always be the ultimate city of immigrants

[After President Trump suggested that illegal immigrants be sent to "sanctuary cities" such as NYC]: President Trump has yet again proven that the only constant in his immigration policy is cruelty. He uses people like pawns. New York City will always be the ultimate city of immigrants--the President's empty threats won't change that.

Keisha Lance Bottoms: Executive Order: end receiving ICE detainees

Bottoms has signed an Executive Order directing Department of Corrections to take the necessary action to permanently stop receiving ICE detainees. "As we work to achieve our vision of an Atlanta that is welcoming and inclusive, with equal opportunity for all, it is untenable for our City to be complicit in the inhumane immigration policies that have led to the separation of hundreds of families at the United States southern border," said Bottoms.

Annise Parker: Establish Hispanic Heritage Awards & Hispanic Advisory Board

Mayor Annise Parker today announced the recipients of the 2010 Mayor's Hispanic Heritage Awards and the members of the Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Board. "With the help of my new Hispanic Advisory Board, we found five unsung heroes in the Hispanic community who really made a difference in other people's lives," said Mayor Parker. "I am proud to recognize their contributions, and am looking forward to hearing about their many more achievements in the future."

Antonio Villaraigosa: Approves of undocumented students receiving financial aid

Today, California invests in the dreams of talented undocumented students and in the economic future of our state. I applaud Governor Brown for signing AB 131 into law and affirming the students' role in creating a bright and prosperous future for California. With California facing a deficit of one million college graduates by 2025, this law makes the most sense for our economy and society.

Michael Nutter: Advocates path to citizenship and immigration reform

We must not ignore the plight of individuals whose status here is undocumented. We must provide a pathway to citizenship for people who want is to pursue the American dream. This pathway should require them to recognize the responsibilities that come with being an American. That we are a nation of immigrants is one of the defining characteristics of the US.

Phil Gordon: Supports tougher immigration reform, support for cities

I strongly support the recent bi-partisan proposal on immigration reform and urge members of Congress to embrace the measure.

Mayors deal with the consequences of illegal immigration every day. It is critical that any legislation provide resources for cities and states, which are disproportionately bearing the financial burden of our broken immigration system. Also, it is essential that we seek to resolve this issue in a way in which the rights of both citizens and non-citizens are protected.
