2010-2020 Mayor's Office Websites: on Immigration

Eric Adams: Allow lawful non-citizens right to vote in city elections

We will empower legal immigrants with municipal voting rights. There are more than 3 million immigrants in New York City. The vast majority of these New Yorkers cannot vote in local elections even though many are legal tax-paying residents. By allowing lawfully permanent residents and other non-citizens authorized to work in the United States the right to vote, we will enfranchise nearly 1 million New Yorkers who deserve a say in how their city is run--and who runs it.

Andrew Yang: All agencies must make language access a top priority

All City agencies are required to update their language access plans. But many immigrant communities who speak languages other than English find it very difficult to get services in their preferred language. Keisha Lance Bottoms: Offer pro bono assistance to immigrants facing deportation

Bottoms will expand the City of Atlanta's new deportation defense legal program, which offers pro bono legal assistance to immigrants facing deportation in our communities. We must not waver in our support for our foreign-born residents when the regional federal ICE office reports an 80 percent increase in arrests under President Trump.

Marty Walsh: More services via New Bostonians Office

A son of immigrants, Marty's experience reflects the values and contributions that immigrants continue to make in the city of Boston. Today, immigrants account for over a quarter of the city's total population and foreign-born residents have nearly doubled since 1990. The Walsh Administration will do more to celebrate the individual and cultural identities of our immigrant residents, while simultaneously facilitating inclusion in their adopted country.

Bill de Blasio: Greater outreach and assistance to immigrant entrepreneurs

New York's immigrant communities are a continuing source of entrepreneurial activity and can play a key role in creating new jobs. But the city is not providing sufficient assistance to these groups. 92% of immigrant businesses reported receiving no services to start or sustain their businesses--with 51% unaware of the services available to them. De Blasio proposed a series of programs for the city to improve its support for immigrant entrepreneurs, including greater outreach and technical assistanc

Bill de Blasio: Created privately-funded the DREAM fellowship

Creating DREAM Scholarships: Working through the New York Immigration Coalition and additional non-profit funding, Bill de Blasio created the DREAM fellowship--a scholarship and leadership development program for undocumented college students. Beyond helping dozens of students, the initiative has highlighted the need for enactment of national and state DREAM Act legislation.
