2010-2020 Mayor's Office Websites: on Welfare & Poverty
Eric Adams:
Create MyCity, a one-stop portal for services and benefits
MyCity will allow users to type one number into a secure app or website to instantly receive every service and benefit they qualify for without an abundance of paperwork. This constantly updated information will help
New Yorkers protect themselves and their families. More than 1.5 million New Yorkers live in households that cannot afford enough quality food. Poor communications hurts effort to connect needy households to food resources.
New York City has 350,000 households that are unbanked and another 680,000 that are under banked. That means we are sidelining thousands of people from our economy and allowing industries such as payday lending to flourish by profiting off of poverty.
Community-based banks in lower-income areas that remove minimum balance requirements and overdraft fees will be granted property tax relief, or their landlords will, in exchange for sharing that relief as a rent break.

Eric Adams:
Build affordable housing in wealthier areas
For years, our re-zonings focused on adding apartments in lower-income areas--which led to higher-income people moving in, making communities less affordable, and often forcing out longtime residents. We will build in wealthier areas with a
high quality of life, allowing lower- and middle-income New Yorkers to move in by adding affordable housing. And we will eliminate the community preference rule in those areas, which keeps many New Yorkers out of desirable neighborhoods.
Faith-based institutions have the social vision and local understanding to advance affordable and supportive housing projects on their own properties, but they often do not
have the financial or technical capacity to do so. We will partner with faith-based institutions across New York City to leverage these development rights for a public purpose.

Andrew Yang:
Launch largest basic income program in the country
A Yang administration will launch the largest basic income program in the country. Through this program, 500,000 New Yorkers with the greatest need will receive a basic income that will help give them a path forward. This will start with providing those
who are living in extreme poverty with an average of $2,000 per year. This program can then be grown over time as it receives more funding, with the vision of eventually ending poverty in New York City altogether.

Keisha Lance Bottoms:
Focus on affordable housing via faith-based resources
Bottoms will: - Accelerate legislation to implement recommendations from the Atlanta City Design to promote density and reduce parking requirements, which significantly raise the cost of new apartment buildings.
- Establish a rental housing
initiative to support the 50% of Atlantans who rent their homes.
- Pursue the expansion of inclusionary zoning throughout the City's boundaries, so that every new development contributes to maintaining affordability for Atlantans.
Bottoms will seek greater public input on solutions to address homelessness, especially with faith-based organizations, and seek private
philanthropic support to maximize the impact of our city's homeless service providers.

Accelerate development of new, smaller shelter facilities, including shelters for women and families.

Bill de Blasio:
1990s: Regional director in Pres. Clinton's HUD
Bill de Blasio began his career in public service in 1989 as part of David N. Dinkins' successful and historic mayoral campaign and worked in the Dinkins Administration. Over the next decade, Mr. de Blasio served as regional director at the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; as a school board member for Brooklyn School District 15; and as head of Hillary Rodham Clinton's historic campaign in 2000 for the U.S. Senate.
In 2002, Mr. de Blasio joined the New York City Council, representing Brooklyn's 39th district. During his two terms, Mr. de Blasio fought to improve public education, expand affordable housing,
protect tenants' rights, and reform social services for families and children. Elected Public Advocate in 2009, he pursued fairness for tenants, taxpayers, and students.

During his first term, Buttigieg introduced the 1000 Homes in 1000 Days initiative, which demolished or repaired abandoned homes throughout South Bend. During his second term he constructed safer, more appealing "Smart Streets"
as part of downtown placemaking, and in 2017 announced the largest investment to parks and trails in the city's history.

Bill de Blasio:
Recognize & legalize basement apartments & granny flats
Bring Basements and Granny Flats into the Legal System: There are thousands of unsanctioned housing units across the city in basements and above garages--but the city doesn't recognize them.
That deprives tenants of legal protections, and prevents landlords from making the kinds of upgrades that would ensure the health and safety of families living in them.
Bill de Blasio will end the practice of pretending these homes and their families don't exist. As mayor, he will bring them into the regulated housing system, ensure they meet
legal standards for safety, and work to bring them under rent-regulation, so their tenants will have the same basic protections as New Yorkers in traditional apartments

Chris Coleman:
City resources to prevent mortgage foreclosure
Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention--The increase in mortgage foreclosures is a nation-wide trend, caused by a multitude of factors. We are partnering with organizations at all levels to address the broad range of issues that contribute to foreclosures.
In Saint Paul, our primary concern is preventing foreclosure and keeping residents in their homes. Early intervention is key.
Residents who are at risk of foreclosure should contact the City's Foreclosure Prevention counselors immediately. We are hosting workshops, in partnership with the
Minnesota Home Ownership Center, to provide information and resources to residents. We have kiosks in Saint Paul Public Libraries designed to inform residents about available resources and how to access them.
