Robert Bentley: Will fight illegal immigration in Alabama

As a legislator, I supported efforts to curb illegal immigration in Alabama, as governor I will continue to do so. I understand the Legislature will take up the Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act. Send me that bill. I will sign it.

Maine must always be a welcoming place for those who seek an opportunity to advance through hard work and self reliance. Despite our heritage, Maine is one of just a few places in the country that offers "welfare-on-day-one," for legal non-citizens.

Gary Herbert: Find solutions to tough issues where feds abdicated

On issues like immigration, where the federal government has abdicated its responsibility and stepped aside, we must step forward. We have been sent here by the voters to find solutions to tough issues. Immigration reform is but one example of how we mus achieve a new level of collaboration, commitment, and initiative. As we undertake this work, let us never forget our obligation to respect each other--even when we disagree.

Rick Snyder: Openly encourages innovators and entrepreneurs to immigrate

We will encourage immigrants with advanced college degrees to come to Michigan to live and work. We need to be a place that openly encourages innovators and entrepreneurs to come to our state. The evidence is clear that advance college degree immigrants make a tremendous difference in creating a positive economic activity environment that benefits us all. Half of the startups in Silicon Valley have a foreign national as a founder. It is time we embrace this concept as a way to speed our reinvention.
