Highway 62 model: remain open while rebuilding roads
Consider the recently completed Highway 62 interchange, built while remaining open for traffic. It's not perfect; yet it's a big improvement, and it provides for better public transit as well.
The notion we don't know how to invest in critical infrastructure improvements, or to implement those projects efficiently, is foolish. What's even more foolish, however, is our failure to make necessary investments in them.
The results are deteriorating highways throughout Greater Minnesota and worsening congestion in our metro system. Roads, highways, and public transit are to our state's economy, as are arteries to the human body.
If the arteries are healthy, and efficiently transport blood, oxygen, and nutrients throughout the body, everything works at its best. If, however, the arteries become decrepit or clogged, the body's performance suffers.

We survived Dust Bowl & Trail of Tears--and this recession
It hasn't always been easy for Oklahoma. We have felt the effects of the national recession, and it has been hard. However, we have worked through it, and we will come out stronger. As Oklahomans have done for years, we will continue to manufacture goods
and build skyscrapers on the land that was once known as the Dust Bowl. That is the unshakeable spirit of the people of Oklahoma. We are a state that has survived the injustices of the Trail of Tears and the Tulsa
Race Riots, the great depression, oil booms and busts and the horrors of the Murrah bombing, only to emerge as a stronger community and a prouder people. That's the Oklahoma Spirit.
It's a pioneer spirit, a spirit of resilience and a love for one's neighbors. And it is because of the love, appreciation and respect I have for my fellow Oklahomans that it pains me, as I know it pains you, when we fall short in some areas.

Make Nevada "the" place for gaming innovation
Since I completed my term as chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission, the gaming entertainment industry has expanded to new states and many new corners of the world. Competitive forces demand a new approach from our regulatory infrastructure.
In an increasingly competitive and global economy, Nevada will be "the" place for gaming innovation. Nevada started this industry. We shaped its development, and we must remain the undisputed leader in the gaming economy.
Twenty-first century demands mandate that we provide a flexible environment for the technological resources that are the underpinning of modern gaming devices.
I have asked the leadership of our regulatory bodies to begin immediately to process statutory and regulatory changes that sensibly reflect the modernization of the industry.

Allow & encourage education in Hawaiian language
I want to take a moment to note a unique element in our education system that is often overlooked but is vitally important to the future of our Hawaii. In 1896, it was made illegal to teach in the Hawaiian language. In 1986, a group of legislators
and community leaders removed that ban. I was part of that group.Today, we have an opportunity to organize a Hawaiian language university-within-a-university as a next step. Language is a key element in ensuring that the Hawaiian culture remains
strong and perseveres into the future for the benefit of all. When our young children master language, they master themselves. When they master themselves, they can achieve anything. For our youngest children, my office has been working with private and
public agencies to develop a leadership position in the Governor's office for early education; to coordinate efforts across departments and in the private sector as we lay the groundwork for the future establishment of a Department of Early Childhood.

Growing the Kansas economy is my first priority. We must take bold steps today to create economic growth tomorrow. In saying this, however, let me be clear; we cannot government-program or borrow our way into a stronger state economy. We cannot hope for
the best and paper over the worst.Rural Opportunity Zones, or ROZes, will provide a state income tax waiver for any individual relocating from out-of-state into any participating county that has experienced double digit percentage population decline.
