2011 Governor's State of the State speeches: on Principles & Values

Mark Dayton: Five-Point Plan for Future Prosperity: Invest, & invest more

To progress, we have to invest. We have to invest in jobs; in education; in transportation; in the health of our people, communities, & environment; and in the transformation of government.

My Five-Point Plan for Future Prosperity: Invest in more jobs. Invest in better education. Invest in improved transportation. Invest in the health of our citizens, our communities, and our environment. Invest in the transformation of government services.

Investments require faith and trust. People invest in the future, only if they believe in that future. They invest, only if they trust their investing partners. To create together a successful Minnesota, we need to believe once again in each other and in our collective talents, abilities, and wisdom. We need to believe that our fellow Minnesotans are acting in good faith, and that they want the best for their children, and their communities. So let us believe again in Minnesota. Let us believe again in one another. Let us invest together in our better future.

Earl Ray Tomblin: Priorities: business climate; education; reinvent government

It is my hope that we can agree on these three priorities as we move forward.
  1. Our top priority must be to continue to improve our business climate to attract, retain, and create good paying private sector jobs.
  2. We must improve and reform our entire educational system to better prepare our citizens for the jobs of tomorrow.
  3. We must reinvent, simplify and make government more efficient and responsible to the people and businesses of our state.

Sam Brownback: Five measurable, significant, achievable goals

My Administration will put forth five measurable, significant goals that cumulatively will help push our great state forward into better times with courage, humanity, and hope. They are:
  1. Increase in net personal income
  2. Increase in private sector employment
  3. Increase in the percentage of 4th graders reading at grade level
  4. Increase in the percentage of high school graduates who are college or career ready
  5. Decrease in the percentage of Kansas' children who live in poverty
We are certainly subject to global currents largely out of our control, but we are not rudderless. I believe these goals to be significant and achievable; successfully reaching them will change countless lives for the better and make the future of Kansas brighter.

Jack Dalrymple: Vision for ND: opportunity, growth, & responsibility

I'm asking you now, legislators and all citizens, to commit to these enhanced strategies for growth in the coming decade. We know how far we have come. All of us, working together, will determine how far we will go.
