On Budget & Economy: Trillions in debt is immoral and reckless

President Obama has already run up more national debt than all Presidents from George Washington through George W. Bush--combined! That is unfathomable ?and irresponsible, and it must be stopped. Today, federal spending equals about 25% of our entire economy. At this pace, spending will increase from today's $3.6 trillion to over $5 trillion in 2020.

This reckless spending threatens economic freedom, erodes individual liberty and undermines national sovereignty. Federal spending must be reduced to close to the historical level of about 18% of the economy. Passing a Constitutional Balanced Budget Act will help us achieve this.

It's immoral to saddle our children and grandchildren with this debt. Yet Florida Senator Bill Nelson has voted for all of it. We need to change the culture in Washington.

On Corporations: US corporate tax rate is the highest in the developed world

ADOPTING PRO-GROWTH TAX POLICIES: Investments in job-creating ventures should be rewarded, not penalized. But the Obama Administration's proposed capital gains tax hike will kill jobs. America's job-stifling corporate tax rate is the highest in the developed world--35%--while the rate in Sweden, for example, is only 26%. We must lower our rate to 25% so we can again be the job-creating capital of the world.

On Health Care: Autism is an epidemic; direct funding to defeat and cure it

As a physician, it is abundantly clear to me that autism should now be considered an epidemic in this country. In just the 14 years between graduating medical school and becoming a Congressman, the rate of autism occurrences rose drastically, which is why I was a founding member of the Congressional Autism Caucus.

I've spent years working with leaders in the autism community to discover any factors that contribute to its occurrence as well as explore all available research into its prevention, including removing vaccine components like mercury additives .

Understanding autism and searching for a cure is a passion that I will carry with me to the Senate. In 2004, I spoke at the Defeat Autism Now Conference and the Autism One Conference in Chicago regarding the autism epidemic affecting 1 in 163 children. I challenged public health officials to direct the funding to defeat this epidemic. Today, autism affects 1 in 88 children. America can't afford further delay in autism research.
