Allyson Schwartz in 2014 Pennsylvania Governor's race

On Crime: End the Pennsylvania death penalty

All four candidates support either a moratorium on or an end to the death penalty. McCord, McGinty and Wolf agree a moratorium on the death penalty is in order while studying its value. Schwartz would sign legislation to end the death penalty in Pennsylvania.

On Drugs: Reduce the criminalization of simple marijuana possession

All four candidates would sign legislation to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes. They also broadly agree there should be changes in arrests for marijuana possession. Schwartz would support legislation "to reduce the criminalization" of simple marijuana possession. Wolf supports decriminalizing possession of under an ounce of marijuana. McGinty and Schwartz say they oppose the legalization of marijuana sales.

On Gun Control: Restrictions on both assault weapons and handguns

All four candidates would sign legislation to enact universal background checks, ban sales of assault weapons, require that gun owners report lost or stolen guns and grant municipalities the ability to enact gun control ordinances. McCord and Schwartz would sign legislation to limit the number of handguns that one person could buy in an effort to deter straw purchases. McGinty would not sign legislation to limit handgun purchases. Wolf wouldn't say whether he would sign that legislation.

On Social Security: No further reductions in the public pension benefits

All four candidates would maintain a defined benefit pension program for public employees and would oppose switching the system to a 401(k)-style plan and further delaying the state's annual pension obligation payments. McCord, McGinty and Schwartz oppose further reductions in the pension benefits of public employees, while Wolf would not say whether he would support or oppose such reductions. None put forward a specific plan to fully fund the state's pension funds.

On Abortion: Endorsed by Planned Parenthood; she founded women's clinic

Allyson Schwartz today received the endorsement of the Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania PAC. Its Executive Director said, "Allyson has a distinguished record advocating for women's health and economic security and will be a strong ally in the Governor's office."

Although she currently serves in the US House of Representatives, Schwartz founded Philadelphia's Elizabeth Blackwell Center--a women's health clinic--in 1975 and served as it's director until 1988. The Blackwell Center "provided comprehensive health care services for women of all income levels, races, and backgrounds including access to fertility treatments and contraceptive services"

Schwartz said she welcomed the endorsement: "It's unacceptable that women are still fighting to get access to the care they need in 2014--it's time for a powerful voice to stand up when legislators try to tell women what health care decisions they can make and push for offensive legislation meant only to create obstacles to safe, legal care," Schwartz said.

On Social Security: AdWatch: Trade benefit cuts for balancing budget

The Cooper-LaTourette budget had the backing of an array of Astroturf groups like the Concord Coalition and Fix the Debt, while the center-left Center on Budget on Policy Priorities panned it as "significantly to the right of Simpson-Bowles"--a framework that progressive lawmakers and activists have broadly rejected for cutting Social Security and Medicare benefits.

Yesterday I defended Allyson Schwartz's voting record on Social Security, but it turns out I was wrong as she was one of just 22 House Democrats to vote for Cooper-LaTourette. I reached out to the Schwartz campaign for comment on the vote, but seeing as Allyson Schwartz advertised the Concord Coalition's praise for her vote on her House page, I'm guessing she'd stand by it.

That's three organizations now--Third Way, New Democrats, and Concord Coalition--that Allyson Schwartz is aligned with who sell out progressives by cutting bad deals with Republicans on Social Security, public insurance benefits, and regulatory policy.
