On Energy & Oil: Leverage wind, wave, sun and geothermal energy

The Problem: More than any other State in the nation, Hawaii serves as a microcosm for the environment, the risks posed to it by human activity, and the solutions which can address the concerns raised over its protection. Future generations must be able to live in a Hawaii whose beauty and natural resources are preserved in the condition in which our forefathers left the Islands to us.

Cam's Plan:

Leverage Hawaii's clean, renewable resources of wind, wave, sun and geothermal energy as a model for energy independence
Provide incentives for urban developments to set aside pristine wilderness for conservation
Focus on the protection of the world's oceans as a matter of both domestic and foreign policy
Adopt market-based environmental policies that can survive without government subsidy or regulation

On Immigration: Secure the nation's borders; create a guest-worker program

Part II of "Plan for Jobs and a 21st Century Economy," titled "Economic and National Security" focuses on the national security and economic risks of the federal government's inflated debt, the need to secure the nation's borders, create a guest-worker program and provide more legal avenues to immigration, and addresses the needs to care for our veterans as they return from Iraq and Afghanistan. On Budget & Economy: Government spending sucks oxygen out of the economy

America is the greatest example of free enterprise resulting in wealth creation and individual economic benefit in the history of the world. But today government spending is sucking the oxygen out of the economy. Until it is brought under control and dramatically reduced, the standard of living Americans have come to enjoy as a way of life will continue to diminish. No variety of "prosperity" has ever been built on debt. Until Americans discipline themselves and their government off this addiction and "live within our means", we will continue to struggle economically, ultimately losing our personal and national freedoms. I support an immediate cut in the payroll tax for all businesses accompanied by cuts in spending in government entitlement programs including slowing down the rates of growth in Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
