Chris McDaniel in Survey of 2014 Senate campaign websites

On Budget & Economy: Balance the books by cutting spending to sustainable levels

As a Commonwealth, our finances are a mess. In 2011 Forbes Magazine ranked Kentucky as the worst managed state in the nation. Last year we balanced our budget with over $1.2 billion dollars in federal stimulus money that is due to end. We have unfunded pension liabilities in excess of $39 billion and bonded indebtedness in excess of $10 billion. I will demand fiscal restraint from the State Senate and refuse to vote for new spending without ensuring that it is completely funded and that other areas of spending are cut. As a true fiscal conservative, I will lead the charge to ensure the books are truly balanced and that we cut spending to a level that is sustainable for the long term.

On Tax Reform: Reduce our corporate and personal tax rates

I realize that businesses will locate in the areas that offer them the greatest ability to utilize their capital in the private market. Consequently, we must keep taxes low while maintaining a high level of services. To accomplish this, I will focus on reducing our corporate and personal tax rates.

On Government Reform: Defend the 10th Amendment and states' rights

The Tenth Amendment and the concept of States' Rights has been tainted over the past several generations. Despite a federal government that attempts to control, the reality of what the US Constitution provides is that states have authority in a co-sovereign approach to government.

Chris believes now is the time for states to reassert that power. There must be natural tension between the state and federal governments. That tension is a natural protective mechanism to be sure our individual rights are not eroded.

It is time we reminded the President that he has limited authority under the Constitution, and we expect him to obey the Constitution. Chris is a firm believer in the original Constitution and the Tenth Amendment. He believes the government closest to the people is more responsive to the people. He has spoken out against overzealous federal mandates--a one-size-fits-all government approach--that hampers states abilities to best address the needs of their citizens.

On Health Care: Stop ObamaCare; stop Medicaid expansion; stop tyranny

We must commit ourselves toward the complete removal of ObamaCare. This law was rammed down the peoples throats using parliamentary tricks from Congress. Numerous projections show ObamaCare will cost much more than expected, that it will hit young Americans hardest.

Put very simply ObamaCare is an abject failure. It must be stopped, and attempts to stop it must be implemented at every opportunity.

Chris has fought against ObamaCare. He supported legislation requiring Mississippi agencies not participate in the federal government scheme. He was lead counsel on behalf of several Mississippians to sue the federal government on the grounds that the individual mandate was unconstitutional. He has fought against federal attempts to force Medicaid expansion onto our state. As your next United States Senator, Chris McDaniel will keep up the fight to eliminate the tyranny of ObamaCare and the attack on the middle class.

On Immigration: Start controlling illegal immigration with border control

The United States was built by immigrants willing to take a chance and grasp opportunity and freedom. However, our country's lax enforcement of immigration laws have resulted in less offering of opportunity and freedom to the tired, hungry, huddled masses. Instead, our broken immigration system offers opportunity to plunder the creations of the millions of immigrants who came before.

The push for amnesty for illegal immigrants is nothing new. Amnesty was granted to 3 million immigrants in 1986. It did little to solve the problems 27 years ago, and it would do little to solve problems now. The Congressional Budget Office estimates another wave of amnesty would drop wages for American workers for at least the next 12 years, exacerbating an already difficult situation for the next generation of American jobseekers.

McDaniel believes strongly that now is the time for the US to get a handle on the out of control problem of illegal immigration. He believes that starts with border control.

On Crime: Death penalty for terrorism with victims killed

You can now add terrorism to the list of state crimes that could potentially lead the guilty party to Mississippi's death row. "If we do reach the death penalty phase in a case like this, a jury should be allowed to consider whether or not it was an act of terrorism as an aggravated offense," said McDaniel.

This comes thanks to a bill authored by McDaniel who says with recent bombings in Boston & even terrorist threats the state simply needs to have the law in place. "We have to take a proactive role in combating terrorism. This gives our prosecutors and our justice system another tool to do just that," McDaniel said.

As with any death penalty case, a victim must die as a result of a felony before the crime can warrant death. With this law, terrorism is now one of those felonies, like rape or armed robbery. McDaniel says adding it to the list puts the state in line with federal law. The bill passed the legislature overwhelmingly. McDaniel has submitted this exact bill for several years now.

On Abortion: Unborn children are children

The Center for Pregnancy Choices of South Central Mississippi hosted a luncheon to help bring awareness to Mississippi's Personhood Amendment. State Sen. McDaniel spoke at the event and called the Center for Pregnancy Choices a "godsend."

"They are amazing," he said. "They are on the front lines in the fight for life. They're out there letting people know there are other options aside from just aborting the child."

McDaniel said he favors the Personhood Amendment and anything else that promotes the pro-life message. "It's important to discuss it so everyone can understand it," he said. "I hope one day it leads to a culture that embraces life."

McDaniel said that millions of children have been aborted since the passage of Roe vs. Wade in 1973. "Unborn children are children," he said. "They're human beings and should be protected by law."

Amendment 26 would outlaw abortion, human cloning, embryo stem cell research, and other forms of "medical cannibalism."
