On Abortion: Life begins at conception

As a father I understand the miracle of life. I believe that life begins at conception and will oppose all taxpayer funding for abortions. In the Senate, I will work vigorously to protect the unborn and stop any legislation that threatens the right to life.

On Budget & Economy: Balance the budget instead of $17 trillion national debt

As a father and small business owner, I balance a budget every year. It is past time for Washington to do the same. If we don't act now to put our country's financial house in order, the $17 trillion national debt will loom over the future of our children and grandchildren. In our business and our family if we don't have enough money, we have to cut back. The government should too. I'll make the tough choices to balance the budget with spending cuts and a smarter approach to government.

On Gun Control: Lifetime defender of the Second Amendment

Protect the Second Amendment: I share the founding fathers belief that personal liberty is the bedrock principle of our Democracy. As a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and defender of the Second Amendment, I have never wavered in protecting this unalienable right. I defended this right as both Legal Counsel for the Iowa Firearms Coalition and Local Counsel to the National Rifle Association. The Second Amendment is just as important today as when it was first written.

On Health Care: Defund and repeal ObamaCare

I have signed the Senate Conservative Fund's petition to defund ObamaCare, and will vote to repeal this disastrous legislation. ObamaCare was a misguided attempt to replicate the failed healthcare systems of Western Europe. Instead of reforming a broken system, the legislation raised taxes and created a bureaucracy of endless red tape. The law was so impractical that even the liberal Democrats in Congress agreed to delay implementation. There are sensible free market solutions that can fix the broken healthcare system, but first we must stop ObamaCare from making a bad situation worse.

On Immigration: As US Attorney, prosecuted immigration cases

A sixth-generation Iowan and small business owner, Matt worked for over five years on behalf of Iowans as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa, protecting law-abiding citizens and their hard earned tax-dollars from fraud. He prosecuted cases in important areas such as national security, immigration, income tax and firearms.

On Principles & Values: Christian churchgoer who can champion our values & beliefs

Iowa Values: Matt and his wife Marci, who is originally from Cedar Rapids, have been married for 20 years and have three energetic children. A Christian who regularly attends church with his family, Matt has built a life on hard work and free enterprise.

Matt Whitaker is the Republican who can champion our values and beliefs. He is the one candidate who can stand toe-to-toe with any Democrat nominee. He has lived a life that demonstrates his values and has prepared him for the job of US Senator. In the Senate, Matt will fight for Iowa values and common sense solutions to America's toughest problems.--See more at:

On Tax Reform: Taxes are too high and the tax code is too complex

On Welfare & Poverty: Too many people on food stamps breeds culture of dependency

Too many hard working Americans are out of work or have to settle for less than their full potential. Washington breeds a culture of dependency. Too many Americans, through no fault of their own, are dependent on food stamps and other government benefits.
