On Abortion: Support the Life at Conception Act; all life is precious

As an Irish-Catholic, I have always believed that life is precious, and that a fundamental role of government is to protect life--all life.

As a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates I fought to protect life, and received a 100% rating from West Virginians for Life for my stance on pro-life issues. I fought to protect the unborn in the State Legislature and will do so in the U.S. Senate.

I will support legislation, a Life at Conception Act, establishing the principle that life begins at conception. I will also support any legislation that restricts tax-payer money to organizations such as Planned Parenthood, which perform or advocate abortions.

56 million unborn have fallen victim to abortion and it must be stopped today. As your U.S. Senator, there are many ways to protect the unborn, and I will fight for each and every one of them.

On Budget & Economy: No bank bailout; no carmaker bailout

I strongly oppose all government bailouts of private industry. Federal bailouts reward inefficient and corrupt management, while robbing taxpayers and increasing the National Debt.

Bailouts take money from successful business and provides their profits to their inefficient competitors. It is morally and economically wrong in a free-market system.

I never would have voted for the bank bailouts, AIG bailouts, or auto bailouts, as they are unconstitutional, and directly opposed to free-market values.

I will oppose any and all federal bailouts, and instead will fight to balance the budget, to pay down the National Debt and restore the value of the Dollar. It is time our government starts promoting responsibility and stop rewarding failure.

On Energy & Oil: Fight the "War on Coal"; no alternative energy subsidies

As Obama and his administration are ramping up their War on Coal, good paying coal mining jobs are being destroyed in our own backyards. Politicians claim they want to "rein in" the EPA, yet West Virginia keeps losing jobs and the revenue that goes with them.

Coal gives West Virginians affordable power and helps to lower their bills. I oppose using tax-payer money to subsidize alternative energy, while our government targets the destruction of coal mines in West Virginia.

I fought against the Cap-and-Trade bill that was introduced and passed in the West Virginia House of Delegates. I will continue to fight any anti-coal legislation as a U.S. Senator.

While politicians criticize Obama's War on Coal with press statements and TV interviews, I will introduce legislation to eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency. I will also oppose any regulation harmful to the coal industry. Only then will we see our coal industry improve and bring jobs back to West Virginian.

On Gun Control: Never infringe an individual's right to keep and bear arms

I will never vote for any legislation that infringes on an individual's right to keep and bear arms. The Second Amendment must be kept sacred and protected at all levels.

During my time in the West Virginia House of Delegates, I introduced the Firearms Freedom Act, which would prevent federal regulations on firearms manufactured and sold within West Virginia. I received an A rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA) for my stance on guns.

On Health Care: Repeal ObamaCare; oppose any universal healthcare

As your U.S. Senator I will vote to repeal ObamaCare and oppose any legislation which expands any universal-healthcare. I do not believe government has the authority to force families to buy into a government system.

Small businesses are suffering and on the verge of being closed due to the new polices of our current President. West Virginians deserve representation in Washington that won't play party politics to get ahead. If we are to protect small businesses and jobs, we must repeal ObamaCare.

I believe health decisions are between a doctor and their patient. It is time to get government bureaucrats out of West Virginians' decisions with their doctors.

I have signed the "ObamaCare Repeal Pledge" to vote to repeal ObamaCare and against any bill that provides funding to implement or enforce the law. I will vote against legislation that increases government involvement in healthcare. We must use free-market solutions if we are to fix our current health care problems.

On Homeland Security: Oppose PATRIOT Act and other 4th amendment infringements

I do not support giving up personal liberty for so-called "more security". I will oppose legislation such as the PATRIOT Act, the recent unconstitutional clauses within the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), CISPA, SOPA, and any other bill that infringes on the 4th and 5th Amendments within the Bill of Rights. Civil liberty and private property must be kept sacred, and I will always fight to make sure it is.

On Homeland Security: National defense is federal government's primary function

As a former Air Force Intelligence Officer who served in the Middle East, I have the necessary experience to understand our current involvement across the world and foreign policy. National Defense is the federal government's primary function and must be taken seriously at all measures.

On Homeland Security: Only fight under a US Commander; not a UN Commander

I believe when we fight we must do so under a declaration of war from Congress. We must always fight under a US Commander and not a UN Commander. I also oppose tax-payer subsidies to foreign countries. We simply cannot bomb and bribe our way to peace, and we can no longer afford to provide welfare hand-outs around the globe.

As U.S. Senator, I will support legislation that stops sending foreign aid to countries burning our flag.

On Immigration: Oppose amnesty; secure our borders

I oppose any bill which involves amnesty. When we hear of proposed immigration legislation labeled as "reform package," conservatives always lose.

No one says our immigration is not in need of reform, but before we do anything we must secure our borders first. We must prevent a "path to citizenship" that awards illegals with incentives to break the law.

I do not oppose legal immigration, I believe legal immigration is an important aspect of our country's history. However, we must not award illegal immigrants over legal immigrants.

We must correct and update our current laws to benefit everyone. We must get back to being the land of opportunity and not the land of handouts from the federal government.

On Tax Reform: Overly taxing continually steals the income of our residents

No West Virginian will say they believe they are under-taxed. Reducing the burden of taxation allows families to save for their future, and gives more money to working men and women. Lowering taxes also gives businesses the ability to invest in their companies and create more jobs. I believe it is not only bad economics to overly-tax our residents, but that it is immoral for Washington DC to continually steal the income and property of our residents.

This is why I have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge to oppose any tax increase as your U.S. Senator. I have also signed the Coalition to Reduce Spending Pledge, to vote against any bill that increases the national debt.

I believe spending and taxes are two sides of a coin. I will fight to reduce taxes and cut spending. We need a balanced budget now, as we can simply not afford to pass more debt down to our children.
