Finished 10K road race in 28,580th place
Today, as I run for the U.S. Senate, I also stay fit by running a few miles every day. I recently ran a 10K road race and finished 28,580 out of 47,925 participants.
My health has been good and I have been fortunate to never having to spend a night in a hospital as a patient. I was not even born in a hospital.

Unalienable rights are granted by God, not by government
My core philosophy of government can be defined in the wisdom of the Founding Fathers, who understood that certain unalienable rights are granted by God--life, liberty, pursuit of happiness--
and that government cannot take them away because they were not granted by government in the first place.
I believe our Founders intended our government to be small and unobtrusive and that attempts to significantly enlarge and expand the role of government end up assaulting our freedoms.
I believe limited government is more efficient and compassionate. What we have now in Washington and Illinois is the opposite--bloated, inefficient and abusive to its people.

Mary Kate and I have six children--one daughter and five sons. I have been active coaching all of my children.
I have coached my daughter in basketball and have coached all 5 of my sons in football over the last twelve years in the Mendota Heights Youth Athletic Association.

rich heritage, she showed me the beauty and majesty of our great state when I was a young man. I became part of this wonderful family when Julie and I were married in Fairbanks 19 years ago. Julie and I have been blessed with three amazing daughters--
Meghan, Isabella, and Laurel--who are also here today, representing the future of Alaska.
As Alaskans, we are ALL truly blessed: breathtaking beauty, world-class resources, boundless opportunities, and above all amazing, talented and diverse people.
Knowing this, it is hard not to be optimistic about our future in Alaska. Unfortunately, regarding our country, it is another story. Our campaign will bring new energy to Alaska, & new energy to Congress.

I don't understand the debate in some Republican circles about personal liberties. Americans have rights that no foreign or domestic entity can take away. Those rights are enshrined in our state and national Constitutions. To think
that someone--anyone--can wipe away your right to a trial, your right to your firearms, your right to free speech, or any other right by decree is anathema to freedom. I'll stand up to the EPA, the FDA, even the PTA, to defend them to my last breath.
