Scott Walker in CNN "State of the Union" interviews during 2015

On Abortion: We defunded Planned Parenthood in a blue state

Planned Parenthood, which I defunded more than four years ago in a blue state, long before these videotapes [allegedly depicting Planned Parenthood staff selling fetal tissue to private buyers]. We did it in a blue state. There's no reason why it can't be done in Washington, and I lay some of that blame on the leadership in Congress.

On Civil Rights: Prohibit discrimination in the workplace, but no equal pay

Q: How are you going to respond to Secretary Clinton talking about you opposing equal pay and opposing women's health care?

A: Wisconsin has a law that prohibits discrimination in the workplace. I have enforced that, I'll push for enforcing laws like that all across the country. And when it comes to women's health care. We took money out of the hands of Planned Parenthood, and put it into noncontroversial areas to provide for women's health.

On Crime: Independent investigation for any death in police custody

Q: You recently wrote an op-ed at HotAir.com tying President Obama to cop killings around the country.can you elaborate?

A: I'm going to have the backs of the men and women who carry the badge in this country. I know the overwhelming majority of them are doing the right thing every day under extremely difficult circumstances. In the rare instances if they're not, we're going to speak out about that. I'm proud to say I'm the only governor in America who signed a law that says there needs to be an independent investigation any time there's a death of someone in police custody.

On War & Peace: Lift political restrictions on 3,000 troops in Syria

Q: President Obama recently announced that the US will be taking in 10,000 Syrian refugees over the next year--you have said that you do not think the US should be taking in refugees from Syria--tell me why.

A: America has permanently settled some 70,000 refugees, many of which are from Syria. Throughout the last several years, we put some $4 billion into humanitarian relief to help with the Syrian crisis. America is leading but at some point, you can't just look at the symptoms. You've got to address the problem and the problem is squarely with ISIS and it's with Assad.[President Obama] is not allowing our military personnel to do what they're trained to do, if we would just lift the political restrictions, empower the over 3,000 troops that are there to do what they're trained to do to help the Kurd and the Sunni allies reclaim the territory taken by ISIS.

On Environment: Keep ethanol mandate until oil companies allow free market

[On the RFS, the Renewable Fuel Standard which requires corn-based ethanol] Scott Walker made clear that while he's generally a free market guy, he believes ethanol is being blocked from consumers and needs government assistance: "Right now, we don't have a free and open marketplace, and so that's why I'm willing to take that position," he said.

But Walker said that his goal would be to get to a point where ethanol can compete openly and "you no longer need in the industry to have these subsidies."

Ethanol proponents argue that because oil companies own gas stations, consumers are unable to access ethanol and therefore it needs the government's support to break through oil's stronghold of the market.
