On Homeland Security: F-35 fighter: the defense project too big to kill

Q. The Air Force has decided to place two squadrons of the new F-35 fighter aircraft at Eielson Air Force Base. The F-35 is the nation's next-generation fighter. Do you support or oppose continued funding of the aircraft?

A: If deployed, deploy it here. However I'm skeptical. Years behind schedule, it's the defense project too big to kill. Developer Lockheed Martin funnels business through 45 states creating 133,000 jobs. Several defense experts say it's already obsolete; likely to be overwhelmed by swarms of cheep drones and Russian antiaircraft missiles projecting 600 miles at three times F-35's top speed.

On Principles & Values: Don't use religion to justify discrimination

Q. A bill has been introduced to prohibit the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act from being used as a means to exempt a person from compliance with some laws. What are your thoughts on this?

A: Called "The Do No Harm Act" introduced by two Democrats, if passed the Act would prohibit using the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act to justify discrimination in housing, employment, health care, children's welfare, and equal access to government services. I support this bill.

On Social Security: Eliminate the cap to pay for expanding program

Q: The Social Security trust fund will be insolvent by 2034. What is your solution?

A: Today there is a $118,500 cap on income taxed for Social Security. Billionaires pay the same as someone making $118,500 per year. As structured, Social Security places the largest burdens on the poorest among us. I agree with Bernie Sanders. Eliminate the cap. According to Sanders research, lifting the cap would not only fix the problem, it would enable expansions.

On War & Peace: Bush's Iraq invasion was catalyst that made ISIS possible

Q: How should the nation combat ISIS?

A: I protested President Bush's invasion of Iraq and was appalled at the number of Democratic Senators voting to support him. Bush's invasion was the catalyst that made ISIS possible, unleashing a monster that really threatens America's security. We should use air power, and logistics support until ISIS, Al Qaeda, Al-shabaab, Boko Haram, and the Al-Nusra Front, are destroyed.
