Dan Carter in 2016 CT Senate race

On Education: Bottom-up decisions on schools, not top-down politicians

Every American should demand and expect equal opportunity to a great education. Too often politicians like Senator Blumenthal become plagued by the agendas of special interest groups and rather than search for new solutions, rely on the same-old approach that frankly has failed.

Decisions about our children's education should not be made top-down, by politicians like Senator Blumenthal in Washington D.C. These decisions should be made locally and from the bottom-up, by parents and teachers

On Budget & Economy: Too much of our economy is controlled by federal government

Under the policies supported and advocated by Barack Obama, Dick Blumenthal and Dan Malloy, our economy is virtually at a dead stop. Wages are flat, we are not creating jobs to meet the demands of Americans who are ready willing and able to work, and too much of our economy is controlled by the federal government. Through common sense tax policies, aimed at helping businesses of all size grows, we can unleash the power of American workers, entrepreneurs, inventors and business owners.

On Foreign Policy: Policy of stupefied bystander erodes America's stature

The current Obama/Blumenthal foreign policy has eroded America's effectiveness abroad, reduced our stature as a military power and caused our most loyal and steadfast allies to doubt our resolve. One of the worst foreign policy decisions in modern American history, which Dick Blumenthal supported and championed, allows the terrorist state of Iran to acquire nuclear weapons that pose an immediate and ever growing threat to the Middle East and, more importantly, to the very existence of Israel. The Obama/Blumenthal foreign policy approach has been a stupefied bystander as North Korea continually launches ICBM missiles, the latest off a submarine platform, all of which have the capability of hitting American targets, while at the same time being a major world arms dealer to the very terrorist who attack Americans and American cities. We must do more to protect our interests along the Korean peninsula.

On Free Trade: Oppose TTP as neither free trade nor fair trade

We must change tax laws to allow billions of dollars in American assets, currently held overseas, to come home to America. We can bring money back to Connecticut, thereby creating new jobs. I oppose the Trans Pacific Partnership. It is not fair or free trade. We can avoid losing an estimated 450,000 American jobs by being tougher and standing up for our workers. I believe and will support legislation and treaties that create fair trade among our global partners.

On Government Reform: Democrats do nothing but raise campaign cash for re-election

Filibusters and sit-ins which are used to raise campaign cash to pay off fines imposed for violating the campaign finance laws are not solutions to the problems we face, they are further proof that Dick Blumenthal, and his Democratic cohorts, is not interested in solving problems, his only interested is in re-election and maintaining his taxpayer paycheck.

On Health Care: Government-run ObamaCare screams out to repeal & replace

The cost of "affordable health" is bankrupting working families and those who cannot afford it. The punishing aspects of ObamaCare--high deductibles, lack of providers and insurance companies, the damage to community hospitals--screams out for it to be repealed and replaced with a solution that ensures all Americans access to the best the healthcare system in the world.

I oppose a government run system. We need more market forces and competition for health care service while ensuring that pre-existing conditions continue to be covered, that young adults can stay on their parent's health care plans and that health insurance is portable. As a former pharmaceutical salesman, I know that we must address the ever escalating cost of medication.

It's time to take health care out of the hands of Barack Obama and Dick Blumenthal and put it where it belongs, in the hands of patients and their doctor.

On Homeland Security: Restore troops to being nimble, smart and relentless

We need to restore our troops levels to meet both special needs of terrorism and to give our allies a sense of confidence and our enemies a sense of dread. The military should not be a police force, but defenders of American interests to meet the challenges of China and Russia.

Barack Obama and Dick Blumenthal's so called "terrorism" strategy has cost too many Americans their lives, and has made America and Americans, both at home and abroad, more vulnerable than ever before. Our approach must be nimble, smart and relentless. Dick Blumenthal was absent without leave as Obama cut our troop levels and gutted our Navy.

On Tax Reform: Common sense tax policies to unleash power of entrepreneurs

Through common sense tax policies, aimed at helping businesses of all size grows, we can unleash the power of American workers, entrepreneurs, inventors and business owners.

We must change tax laws to allow billions of dollars in American assets, currently held overseas, to come home to America without fear of having them substantially erased by punishing federal taxes. We can bring money back to Connecticut, thereby creating new jobs.

Dick Blumenthal opposes tax cuts for the Middle Class, for small business and on investments. We need to grow and support the Middle Class, not the Political Class.

On War & Peace: ISIS threat is very real both at home and abroad

Dick Blumenthal has been timid and indifferent to the growth of ISIS--which has proven to be a very real threat both at home and abroad. Contrary to what Obama & Blumenthal believe, ISIS is not the "JV Team". While ISIS and their self-radicalized believers continue to kill innocent children, and adults, both within the United States and across the globe, Senator Blumenthal prefers to focus on photo ops and political stunts which only serves to distract the public from the real issues at hand.

On Crime: Empower both law enforcement and communities together

Following the violence rocking communities across our country, Carter advocates to empower both law enforcement and communities to work together to find a better way. "All Americans should feel safe in their communities and if you're African American, you shouldn't have to worry about interacting with police; and if you're law enforcement, you shouldn't have to worry about doing your job," said Carter.

"We all have a responsibility to change our culture and bring this nation through these difficult times. As the son of a police officer, the violence perpetrated by and on law enforcement this week is heartbreaking," Carter said.

"Too often in the wake of these national tragedies people retreat to their familiar corners making it harder to find common ground," Carter said. "We must use this as opportunity to come together and ensure the security of everyone in our community, including police officers.
