Bill Weld in Sunday Political Talk Show interviews during 2013-2015

On Environment: 1996 River Protection Act: 9,000 miles of land use rules

In Massachusetts's political lore, Bob Durand, a longtime environmental lobbyist, will be forever linked to Weld. In August, 1996, the two of them dove together into the Charles River, in Boston, to celebrate the passage of the Rivers Protection Act, which placed restrictions on the use of land alongside some nine thousand miles of rivers across the state. Durand, a Democratic state senator at the time, had authored the bill, and Weld, then the governor, had signed it.

On Budget & Economy: I was one of the most fiscally conservative governors

Weld, for his part, took a somewhat more nuanced tone toward the Libertarians' rivals: "Someone doesn't have to be disaffected with Ms. Clinton to think that we have a good story," Weld said. "One doesn't have to be Never Trump to see that we were two of the most fiscally conservative governors in the United States."

On Gun Control: Now Libertarian, changed position to opposing gun control

Once an advocate for strong gun control laws, Weld last week quickly made public his new position as an anti-gun-control candidate -- in line with his fellow Libertarians.

On Social Security: Will not abolish social security and receives it himself

"I don't propose to abolish Social Security, I just started receiving it!," the nearly 71-year-old Weld said.

On Social Security: Just started receiving Social Security and likes it

What about the Libertarians' position advocating the abolishment of Social Security? That one hits home. "I don't propose to abolish Social Security, I just started receiving it!" the nearly 71-year-old Weld said.

On Gun Control: 2nd Amendment right s are individual rights

I am a lifelong hunter and gun owner. In 1993, as Governor of Massachusetts, I went along with modest restrictions on firearms. Governing involves tough choices. Today, I would make different choices. Restricting gun rights doesn't make us safer, and threatens our constitutional freedoms. I support the Supreme Court's decision in the District of Columbia vs. Heller -- a decision that embraced the notion that Second Amendment rights are individual rights, not to be abridged by the government.
