Jon Huntsman in Sunday Political Talk Show interviews during 2013-2015

On Health Care: Politics aside, let's see if ObamaCare works or not

Q: 70% of Americans, even if they don't like ObamaCare, do not think it's reasonable to shut down the government to try to stop it. So what's the endgame?

HUNTSMAN: I think the end game, partially is we don't see a government shutdown. You basically see guys who have been able to stand up and talk sanity. But it will be important to see how this is executed throughout the states. You have 17 exchanges that are going to be up and running on Tuesday. We created the first one in the state of Utah. It has about 240 individual policies that can be accessed. 300 small businesses are ready to buy into it. I think it will be a very important experiment this year. Politics aside, we now move into the real world of economics, jobs, and competitiveness. And that means: Does it work or not?

Q: But you can't say, "Politics aside." Many would say, "Look, we want to keep this alive to 2014."

HUNTSMAN: We're going to be beyond politics real soon. And then the real world does take over.

On War & Peace: North Korea manipulates world to get concessions

Q: What is your level of concern about North Korea?

HUNTSMAN: We've heard this music before. For anyone who's watched the region, the North Koreans have a way of manipulating not just the regional headlines, but indeed, global headlines and then asking for concessions. And sadly, people step up and give concessions and that just continues the cycle.

Q: The truth is we don't know very much about this new leader, do we?

HUNTSMAN: Nobody knows much about this new leader.

Q: So, we don't know what he's capable of.

HUNTSMAN: You don't know what he's capable of. You know what his father did historically, the same kind of provocative cycles. But I think what we do know for sure is that these external provocations that we have witnessed are pretty much indicative of internal political challenges, which is to say that young 29-year-old Kim Jong- Un is further trying to consolidate his power among the central military commission, among the political elite.

On Principles & Values: No Labels--stop fighting, start fixing

Q: Our guests are the new chairs of the No Labels movement, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Jon Huntsman (R-UT). The motto of "No Labels--stop fighting, start fixing": How do you intend to get there?

MANCHIN: In two years in the Senate, I've yet to have a bipartisan meeting, where Republicans and Democrats sat down and worked through their problems. No Labels gives us that venue.

Q: On the issue of preventing gun violence one month after Newtown: there was no mention of that issue at all on the No Labels web site. Is that a punt?

HUNTSMAN: Well, this is not about finding the endpoint for a specific policy issue. This is about creating a pathway that speaks to problem solving. So the whole attempt here is to create a new attitude that speaks to problem solving. It's about extreme partisanship. You can't do anything about problem solving unless you get a group of people together on Capitol Hill who are dedicated to making decisions that are right for the country as opposed to the next election.
